Fair enough. Will lastly say strong agree on the point about lit fic, honestly m/c person muses over some difficult but ordinary part of life (bereavement, divorce, nuclear family inadequacies) based on authors own experience is not the genius that people make it out to be.

Absolutely! Small talk and weak ties are exactly how society functions and how slowly deeper connections are created. Tbh tho I wouldn’t be so enthused about it but for the fact that it’s so looked down upon.

Thank you for writing this; I felt instinctively this work would be a disappointment after reading of his clumsy dismissal of Ann Radcliffe in the Guardian. Radcliffe can certainly be critiqued but I got a sense of…ignorance from his approach

Another example of inclusive practice for conferences: it’s on MWS, online and free so I am able to attend almost all of it as a disabled w/c independent scholar in another time zone. Thank you to the organisers, I am really looking forward to this 🖤

In answer to your question, it does work. I’d love to see the HE sector take on more of this model. Your course was liberated from assessment and guess what? I learned more and did more as a result 🖤 also dying to do your course on MWS if that ever surfaces 🖤

FWIW doing your course on Radcliffe was one of the best educational experiences I’ve ever had. Even w/ my lack of attendance towards the end - I’m literally reading Gaston now and giving papers on Radcliffe. TY 🖤

Liked your review, although I did like the more straightforwardly scary bits! Also for me there was an element of class anxiety in the film, the fears of m/c people becoming w/c, having to go ‘downstairs’ and lost forever in the ‘backrooms’, no longer themselves etc
