The way to determine what you care about is via algorithms. It's not malicious compliance, it's literally what's being asked. The alternative is user curation but most people are too lazy to do that.

Nowadays I try to surround myself with people who are emotionally mature enough to take a no without making it their problem. But it takes a while to figure out who fits that category and until I'm sure, I rely on "maybe"s.

The end result of that is a compromise where I just say some version of "maybe" to avoid offending the other person while also leaving myself room not to commit to something I don't want to do for one reason or another. Ideally, I'd like to be honest without being made to feel like a monster

In an ideal world I would love to be straightforward about these things. But the world is not ideal and I've learned the hard way that most people will in fact be more hurt, or at least act more offended, if I straight up say no. I can try to sugar coat it but at some point that gets exhausting

N++ is closer to VS Code than to Notepad. The whole point of Notepad is that it does nothing except read and write plain text. Adding tabs already pushed the limit of that. N++ is just bloated by comparison.
