I think Terrence Tao is directionally correct, we shouldn’t settle for a super intelligence that is opaque. A key signal of intelligence is communication. We should strive to make products and models that build understanding with humans instead of disintermediating them.

before I joined Anthropic, I spent about 2 weeks hacking on this as a side project with Opus 4. It used the Agent SDK so it needed a constantly running process & didnt work that well but one prompt to Opus 5.5 ported it to Claude Managed Agents & made it way more reliable

We've heard how much people love Haiku and it's back in 5.5, cheaper, faster than ever before. In fact it's 10x cheaper than Haiku 4.5 under 100k tokens. Try it with computer use, workflows and in the API.

there are some tricky technical problems to figure out! if Claude can only access your files when your computer is online, it might be effectively blocked on doing work until your computer is back on, so perhaps you want some sort of sync but there are edge cases there

we're increasingly going to be moving towards Claude's "brains" in the cloud and giving Claude "local hands" to operate on your computer I talked about this a bit on latent space
