Favorite. But damn, there's like 10 runner-ups…

Progress on the adventure #gamedev. Most of it under-the-hood flexibility. Here I'm using 24x24 tiles/sprites instead of 16x16. Featuring @oryxeleven.bsky.social's 16-Bit Sci-Fi sprites. I'm getting better at using Tiled! This map has many layers: ground, floor, shadows, spills, and walls.

A little top-down adventure game prototype I'm working on, with a strong inspiration from Space Age by @mrgan.com & Matt Comi; using the wonderfully perfect Tiny Galaxy tileset from @oryxeleven.bsky.social.

Forgot to include how I did it: moving the player as little as possible, seeing where it snapped, taking screenshots when it snapped to a new spot, making sure the facing was the same direction so I could measure off the same pixel. Here's 4 screenshots overlayed with "difference" blending.

A slightly cleaner look at the icon. 😍

Also, how good is this app icon!? It's perfect. Fits in with the macOS app icon aesthetic while breaking all of its rules at the same time. And the transparent space helmet? Masterful. /cc @mrgan.com

Zooming up close we can see each pixel of the art is composed of 6x6px (or 3x3 Retina px), so it's 3x pixel art (at least on my MacBook Pro screen). The nav grid is 300x300px (or 150x150 Retina px), which at 3x zoom that means the tiles themselves are 50x50px. /cc @mrgan.com
A very, very, very zoomed close-up of a screenshot of the game Space Age by Neven Mrgan and Matt Comi, demonstrating the screen, pixel, and tile resolution.

Reverse-engineering the Space Age pathfinding grid by measuring screenshots! /cc @mrgan.com

Name that Movie! A deck of storyboard panels from @aapstra.bsky.social! Ordered a long time ago but delayed by US regime shenanigans, finally arrived today and it is awesome. Thanks to @patrickhwillems.bsky.social for introducing me to the deck in one of his Q&A videos.
Name that Movie! deck of cards and postcard with a promotional still of May Day from A View to a Kill. Imagine Duran Duran theme music in the background. 10 of the 48 cards from the Name the Movie! deck. Each card is a scene from a film illustrated in a distinctive storyboard style. Joscha van Deijk is an Amsterdam-based story artist. This card game is the first printed collection of a film quiz he has been sharing online since 2020. Copyright 2025 by Joscha van Deijk.

These are *insane* security questions. Most of them I can't answer for myself without looking them up, and most of them would very likely be different a month or a year from now when I need to answer them. Favorite quote!? Favorite teacher!? Favorite book!?

Well, that just about sums up “both sides”, and I’m pretty sure history is going to see it like the left does. www.npr.org/2025/09/30/n...
"He may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch," said Dave Cole, 78, a Republican from Colorado. "And he's just like George Patton in that he doesn't always say the right things to the right people, and he doesn't say them in the right way, but boy, he knows how to win the war.
And the thing about Trump is he tells you what he's going to do and then he does it, and I really do respect that."
Others disagree.
"The worst president we've ever had," said Harold Etkin, 78, an independent from Oakland County, Mich. "He thinks he can go after anybody he wants. He calls a national emergency to invent laws that aren't laws. He's just the worst president we've ever had."

Fixed it! For some reason I had put that the tileset had 5 rows instead of 10. Ahhh… now it's even better! 😀

This is an intentionally vague post. But wanted to throw it out into the world as a public marker of progress on a personal project. Big breakthrough last night. Excited. (features the wonderful public domain tilesets by @adamatomic.bsky.social)
