I’ll be honest I went into it kind of assuming how it would end and just let myself be taken by the gameplay bc the Metroidvania exploration aspect is very effective, the way the town is so heavily explorable is truly great and I’m impressed with how well they made it flow in a 2D movement system

Anyways the big take away is if you love the feeling of playing classic RE and Silent Hill and love the atmosphere of Alan Wake 2 this is a must play - just don’t expect anything exceedingly original narratively or thematically. It excels at what it is trying to be which is an homage

-I am sure many of the heavy handed tropes are intentional and self aware but I found much of it to be empty at best and annoying/frustrating at worst. It pulls itself together a bit towards the end. Many of the characters you run into have no names which is fitting because they feel inconsequential

Current opinion from my single ending playthrough Gameplay/Atmosphere/Design: an easy 9/10 this game looks great and feels mostly great to play. One of the best iterations of the classic item inventory survival horror games mechanically. Overall great gameplay pacing Story: 6/10 maybe 7/10 -

The 3D Pokemon models still have some charm and personality and aren’t overly stiff. Zigzagoon even does this cute little s shape run before attacks. Characters are still cute proportions but not monstrosities like shining pearl
