Join us TODAY for my research talk on domestic workers in Brazil! If you’re in the U.S., the talk begins at 11 AM EST. I unpack the criminalization of domestic workers, fears of inversion, and evaluate the possibility of Black women turning sexual racism tropes on its head. See you soon :)

As frustrating and often humbling writing feels (especially as a first-book author in progress), I will never feel so useless by anything (racism, misogynoir, w/e) that I would ever consider letting an AI write on my behalf. Never ever.

That email from the AHA Executive Council asking members to vote for their pre-vetted slate of candidates in the name of saving the discipline from scholars opposed to genocide in Gaza is not doing the work they think it is.

"Racial apologists would have us believe that Black children have to sit in a room with White children to learn anything [...] in spite of the fact that the New York Times is written and has always been written at a 6th grade level." - Toni Morrison in 1975 at Portland State University

One reason why I think respectability is stupid is because it's often used as a mask. Such judgements are rarely about the clothes themselves, but more often about the bodies beneath them. To wit, no one raised an issue when Elon wore a graphic t-shirt and ball cap to meet the Trump cabinet.
Two photos: One shows Zelenskyy in a black quarter zip at the White House meeting, the other shows Elon Musk in a black graphic t-shirt, black topcoat, and black ball cap, also meeting with the Trump cabinet.

Why does 25% AfD among young men spark a thousand "what is going on with young men?" posts yet Die Linke 34% among young women generates...nothing at all? Yes, young men voting for the radical right is an important phenomenon. But so is young women going rad left *at even higher rates*.

It’s weird how we’ve memory holed the fact that Obama entered his first term with a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and a majority in the House and McConnell’s response was “We’re going to make Obama a one-term president,” not “there’s little we can do”

Birthright citizenship is on the lips and minds of many, given yesterday’s “executive order.” Recommend Martha Jones’s book to those seeking to inform themselves about the context of this concept.

Netanyahu said yes to Trump’s envoy, and is now saying no publicly. This is unserious behavior and not how negotiations go. Netanyahu trying to make a fool of Trump at the place where he has the most pride, the dealmaking table

There were several AI-critical panels at #AHA25, including mine! Ours was through the Conference on Latin American history, so maybe Americanists and Europeanists slept on it 🤷🏿‍♀️

The map line is good too lol. But drawing a map without walking the land is that colonizers have done over and over again. Making it about disrespect and inaccuracy makes it more mild than ketchup on some french fries.

Archival documents are fun because here you not only get political critique and a revealing and honest look into national black politics (I particularly enjoyed the GA/Atlanta references)…you also get a first hand account of Bond in a Bay Area strip club with his wife
