PSA: When making adverts for your Twitch streams, it's useful to put the actual URL of the Twitch channel on the post. Saying only "On our Twitch channel!" without giving the URL causes the reader to have to go searching for your channel. It's an extra step some won't do. New viewers need the info.

The new edition doesn't seem to have much to do with the previous editions and various marketing bits said they weren't really interested. Most of the reviews I've seen say this is not a game for people who liked the original T&T.

So Hegseth banned trans people from the military because they take hormone replacement therapy (in my case, testosterone) and people on hormones aren't fit to serve...but now he wants to give testosterone to all those soldiers with "low T."--presumably only the dude soldiers. Interesting.

Lip Syncing is a skill--one that takes practice and isn't easy. Yes, it's impressive when someone dances their toes off or sing like an angel...but it's just as impressive when someone lip syncs their lips off. I'd just like a bit more respect and attention given to the art of lip syncing. 11/

Watch Latrice Royale do "Natural Woman" where she stands in one spot on the stage and captivates with just the skill of how she breathes with Aretha Franklin. Or watch Lipsynka lip sync to scenes from films in the campiest way. Tandi Iman Dupree drops from the ceiling and still kills the sync. 10/

160

TrooperSJP of the AcademicFoxhole @troopersjp.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

When you watch expert drag queens, you really see the art and skill of lip syncing. Some queens can dance up a storm. Some have make up skills to make them look exactly like Judy Garland. Some can also do spectacle. Some can do all three. But the crucial skill in lip syncing is...lip syncing. 9/

150

TrooperSJP of the AcademicFoxhole @troopersjp.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

The ultimate point here? RuPaul's Drag Race blew up and suddenly SpikeTV wanted a place for non-drag queens (mostly straight people) to also be able to have some fun with the lip syncing. They think it is about dancing and spectacle...with the skill of lip syncing itself often an afterthought 8/

150

TrooperSJP of the AcademicFoxhole @troopersjp.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

I watched a great interview with Marion Cotillard on Graham Norton's show and he asked her about how she was able to lip sync so believably to Edith Piaf in the film, and she discussed about needing to learn the specific ways that Piaf formed vowels in the back of her throat. She really studied. 7/

150

TrooperSJP of the AcademicFoxhole @troopersjp.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, even Jenna Dewan-Tatus (who was dancing up a storm) has much better lip syncing. Though I want to give ups to two fellas who weren't on that Top 5 list but who could really sell a lip sync: Terry Crews doing Vanessa Carlton and Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing Janet Jackson. 6/

150

TrooperSJP of the AcademicFoxhole @troopersjp.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

And so I watched these celebrated lip sync battles, and many of the good ones...the dancing and performances are great...but the guys don't emote in their faces/mouths enough to give weight and believability to the lip syncs. A number of the women on that show were better in moving their mouths. 5/

150

TrooperSJP of the AcademicFoxhole @troopersjp.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

One thing necessary to sell a lip sync is enough facial/mouth movement and the normative performance of tough masculinity teaches the masc folk to not move their face/mouth much when they speak...so people who've internalized normative masculinity often have difficulty moving their faces enough. 4/

150

TrooperSJP of the AcademicFoxhole @troopersjp.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

While they danced and performed well, they didn't lip sync well. They were fine. But they weren't good lip syncers. Lip syncing is a skill that isn't just moving your mouth in time with the music...it is *selling* that the words are coming out of your mouth. I never bought their lip syncing. 3/

150

TrooperSJP of the AcademicFoxhole @troopersjp.bsky.social · 20/07/2026

#1 on the list was Tom Holland's "Umbrella." Tom Holland was not making a joke of his performance. He was not making a joke of doing a song by a woman. He clearly wanted to show off his dancing skills with full sincerity. His performance was very good. So was Channing Tatum's Beyoncé. However... 2/

Just saw a short of the 5 best Lip Sync Battles from that TV show and I have a hot take. The Top 5 were all men singing songs by women where I think the majority of the excitement came from seeing these muscular dudes in dresses. This is an old joke and not progressive. 1/
