A handicap is a way to level the playing field and allow golfers of different abilities to compete fairly against each other. Ie, if one player has a 16 handicap and another has a 6 handicap, the 16-handicap player would be given 10 strokes (16 - 6) to help level the playing field- AKA Equity!!
