How happy or pissed would you be if U.S. government imposed a large tax or some kind of tariff on AI?

Starting is the hardest part. If you can break past the initial difficulty of beginning something, then you are ahead of so many people because that momentum will carry you forward through those daunting moments, and may reward you with increased opportunities.

It's insane to me that even apprenticeships in software engineering require 2-3+ years of experience in various languages. This is not the first one I have seen either.

I have reframed my perception of laziness. They aren't lazy, they are lost. Context matters. Of course, not every lazy person is lost. A majority of the time this appears to be relatively true, anecdotally.

I think in a society where we're trained to prize answers, questions are the undervalued thing... I'm more impressed with people who know how to direct the machine by asking it the right questions... asking great questions is the 21st century skill that's undervalued right now.

Raise your prices. Your job is to find the ceiling of what the market will bear, then acquire the skills to close the skill gap. Raising prices is a way to test the market and identify the value of your services.

Would you trade places with Warren Buffet just to have his billions of dollars? But he's really old. If you would not take that deal, then you must value time over billions of dollars, right? Then start treating your time like it is valued too.

Haven't shared this because it's embarrassing, but here I go: About 5 days ago, I had a car accident in the morning. The car is totalled. Had I not done a maneuver on the highway, I would have ended up in the hospital with serious injuries or death. Please take the time to read this thread.

“Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder, but nobody wants to lift no heavy-ass weights.” The legendary Ronnie Coleman said this, and it reminds me of software developers. "Everyone wants to be a software engineer, but nobody wants to do no heavy-ass coding sessions."

Looking for some experience to build a project in a team environment? Apply. Dallas area gets priority applications first, so people are aware. Cool opportunity. Apply either way. Worst that can happen is that they say no. Oh, it's 100% free. This could be a wonderful talking point in interviews.

If there is one single thing that I want to do most in life, it's to find a conference where every VC is at, and they have you come out like some shark tank like effect. And so I come out to pitch the most memest meme pitch ever created. I want to die knowing that someone laughed and smiled that day

The 1 mistake anyone in #100devs can possibly make? To be anti-social and never make friends with people who are grinding their way to a new life. I believe this is called networking? Trust me when I say that you can reach 35 and have no real network by avoiding others. wait, I'm 35...

We focus on the negatives too much. Looking back at 2024, what wins did you have this year? No matter what you're experiencing in life, remember, that the wins you get do compound eventually. Keep paying the hard work. In time, you will receive dividends, like stocks.

Reminder: if you're learning to code and you fear AI. You shouldn't. Whether AGI happens or not doesn't matter. The ones who have been patiently grinding will make it (others are leaving right now!), and YOU will be the one who will be building AI stuff for companies in the future if it does.

The great bluesky rush. was it a rush as it was a rush to obtain as many followers as possible from starter packs? and amidst the confusion, a few weeks later, those people unfollow all of them and follow who they want to tune the timeline. The great bluesky rug pull is what we should call it.

Can we remove the gatekeeping from the software dev/engineer industry? Nobody should be completing insane leetcode interview problems for a front-end development position that does a lil react, some nodejs, javascript, and requires that you can make something look decent.
