The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

The cover of my new play The Great Impresario Boris Lermontov Would Like To Invite You To Dinner. It features an illustration of a marionette theater with fork, plate, and spoon puppets by the incredible Tom Deja/Bossman Graphics.Play. Casting: 2 actors. Two actors meet onstage and flip a coin to decide who plays which character for the performance. One takes on the role of Boris Lermontov, the boisterous and boastful impresario of a popular ballet company, while the other plays his employee Noa, an unappreciated dancer who’s been tasked with serving dinner to Lermontov and his guest.

The façade of the dinner party quickly starts to crumble as tensions rise between impresario and dancer, revealing the faulty hierarchical structures inherent to such working relationships. As the actor playing Lermontov tries to prove power imbalances can be solved with the Right Person in the role of impresario, they fall further and further into a trap they’ve created for themself.About the author. Tristan B Willis is a playwright exploring trans and queer stories, distanced performance, and the intersection of theatre and games. They are a multiyear recipient of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Fellowship Program award and, in 2025, they were nominated by Michael John Garcés for the Stavis Playwright Award.

As a resident of Orchard Project’s Liveness Lab and CultureHub’s Writing for Electronic Formats, Tristan discussed and cultivated new ways of presenting theatrical work in digital and distanced spaces. They’ve continued that work with the Kennedy Center Local Theatre Residency, Lucille Lortel Theatre with support from Caridad Svich, the From-Home Fest, and the Welcome to My Homepage residency. now that The Great Impresario is published it's time to start working on my next project
The Alien Vs Predator poster except Mr Beast is Alien and Jigsaw is Predator. The title says "BVJ / BEAST VS JIGSAW" and the tag still says "WHOEVER WINS... WE LOSE." It's frankly a TERRIBLE editing job and I'm still proud of it.

I truly think art alone is incapable of enacting change on any systemic level and also that’s okay. But we can’t let making art be our stand-in for taking action.

if i made a game about killing nazis i could say my game is political but i also dont think making a game or playing a game is political. art is the vomit of politics not the food. people want to come home from work and mime nazi killing in their non-nazi-killing lives. thats catharsis not politics

I wrote about DESERT HEARTS for the Pride edition of my reader's choice series. This movie is the best. I love it. You can watch it now on the Criterion Channel. www.patreon.com/willowcately...
A still from DESERT HEARTS of three women in a convertible on an open highway in the desert. No cars behind them. Just skyFilmmaker Donna Deitch initially imagined Desert Hearts as a lesbian adaptation of John Huston’s The Misfits (1961). In that film, Marilyn Monroe plays a young woman brought out to the old West and finds herself falling in love with a horse wrangler played by Clark Gable. Queer languages in cinema were, and still are, often coded, and function in a way that resembles the way our identities can rankle with the shape of societal norms and expectations. The same is true for queer cinema, and there are many beloved films in our canon that speak to a transfiguration of existing modes through the lens of homosexuality or transness. When Deitch set to adapt Jane Rule’s novel “The Desert of the Heart”, there weren’t many lesbian westerns, but there were coded characters, such as Joan Crawford’s strong-willed butch gunslinger in Johnny Guitar (1954), or Mercedes McCambridge’s tough pony chaser in Giant (1956). In that film she seems to speak a secret language with James Dean’s equally queer coded oil-man. But in these films, queerness is cordoned off, and suggestive rather than explicit. Deitch opted for a representation that used the poetics of the Western style and brought it to life with a rambunctious and explicit language that used old fashioned techniques like lapse dissolves and long wipes to elucidate on the budding lust and forthcoming relationship between the beguiling free-spirit Cay Rivers (Patricia Charbonneau) and the cloistered, nearly divorced Columbia professor Vivian Bell (Helen Shaver). Deitch’s film begins with images that are immediately steeped in folklore. “Reno, 1959”, in a wide-frame, shows a train that arrives at the station, and Vivian, in a cool, lavender pantsuit, arrives professionally in what remains of the wild West. Through the details of the embedded language of the Western, we can glean the space, the pacing, and the conservatism of places like this. CONT.

Saddened to hear of Akihiro Miwa’s passing. most in the west knew Miwa for voice acting in Ghibli films like Mononoke and Howl, but many will also remember them as a stage & screen actor, a singer/songwriter and a former lover of Yukio Mishima who famously read that man for filth.
