We've got some food that the dogs won't eat, so I brought it down to the river for the birds. There were no birds here when I sat down five minutes ago.

Just a sunshine boy from earlier today.
A small black terrier looks up from his comfy spot on the sofa. We can see his inquisitive face and his bright brown eyes.

Say what you like about this absolute fool of a Took, but he's the only one of our animals not currently costing us a bloody fortune in prescription medication every month.
A bright-eyed and extremely healthy wheaten dog looks at the camera as if it is going to produce a ball for him to chase.

In small wins news, we've found a way to get Tess to eat the hypoallergenic food, and she is back to taking her tablets without a struggle. The relief is immense.

Me: Ugh, all this cosy season bullshit. It’s just marketing nonsense. My dogs:

I sang "Oh fluffy boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling" for him, but he still declined to eat his breakfast.
An extremely scruffy black terrier, with also quite a lot of fresh grey in his ruff, adopts a regal pose on my lap. His little curls are very bedhead, even though he's been up for hours.

This impatient post has yielded good results, in that I feel less impatient about Smidgey's lack of appetite. Thanks, cat people.

So proud of myself. I've spent two hours trying to rescue a butterfly that was determined to fly out the ONE window in our kitchen that is too high for me to reach and does not open. But look! Like a smart crow, I fashioned a tool.

Absolute Louvre-of-Bluesky levels of Youtube commenting here. Well done, this deeply fun person.

There are billions and billions of records, articles, books, and videos galore; why would you want to view a film that really has nothing to do with the actual Bill Evans? Look! I attached hooks to a blackout curtain and hung it from the gutter outside our patio door. Instant shade in the kitchen! Delighted with myself. At least until someone here explains to me that this is a terrible idea.

Tess kindly graced us with her presence on the walk today, and will now be spending the rest of the day asleep.
A small, old, white-faced Jack Russell terrier faces the camera looking for treats. She's standing on an open green space. Behind her, fat clouds scud across a blue sky, and you can see a couple of local landmarks, the widow's tower and the boathouse.

In momentous dog health news, Tess came out for the walk TWO DAYS IN A ROW. This means her anti-inflammatories are really working. Of course, yesterday we met a friend of ours who was doling out actual roast chicken, so I suspect Tess thought that might happen again today. It did not.

Watched The Palm Beach Story (1942) last night. Fantastic film (bit racist though, obvs). The MPV was Claudette Colbert's suit, where every single stripe is perfectly pattern-matched to indicate a woman who knows EXACTLY what she's about. Absolutely incredible work from Irene's team.
A not-great publicity photo from the film, with Joel McCrea, Mary Astor, Claudette Colbert, and Rudy Vallee linking arms and smiling. Claudette Colbert is wearing the suit, a white-and-tan striped number where every single line, across pockets, shoulder pads, sleeves, and vents, is matched perfectly. It's a work of art.
