It’s time to unite, to join forces with as many allies as we can. We hold that power. I raise a glass to our future. My drink is resistance. It packs a mighty punch. 5/5

As I raise my glass this New Year’s Eve, I offer this toast: Resist. Resist the temptation to yield to those who lie, to those who will use the many in pursuit of their own power. Resist the divisive forces of polarization. We are more resilient and powerful than we might think. 4/5

In the next year, the propagandists will be emboldened. They will twist the truth. They will bend the rules. It falls to us to hold them to account. And to hold onto a vision for the future. The New Year’s Eve anthem, Old Lang Syne, enjoins us to raise a glass, to “drink a cup of kindness.” 3/5

Propagandists will take advantage of the chaotic Trumpian year that 2025 promises to be. “The Purpose of Propaganda,” Aldous Huxley wrote, “is to make one set of people forget that other sets of people are human.” 2/5

Drink a cup of kindness In the new year, our sense of hope and optimism will be tested. Some factions are already trying to convince us that “Canada is broken”. It is not, though it is due for repairs. Next door, Trump taunts Canada as the 51st state of America and a consequential tariff war. 1/5
