i remember people saying in march (!!!) they wanted gavin gone when he had only been on coco’s team for 6 months. you do not make adjustments in a short time frame. and the fact that she’s already made improvements in a year is very telling.

not every match felt like a battle outside of the QF. when she gets in her head about her serve, she can revert back to what she’s learned over the last year more easily. for a 22 year old, these are good things. progress takes time.

she let her forehand and serve go awry a few times, but her consistency and ability to change game plan and alternate her strategy was her advantage in this tournament. her confidence let this ability surface more consistently than in the past.

anyway final Coco USO thoughts: so many people are too harsh on her. i know the expectations are sky high because she joined the tour young and she’s not without criticism. but i find it bizarre that she’s made huge strides in her performance and still people (her own fans!) look down on her.

i never had a doubt that entire match. ever. i fully believed in her because she believes in herself and competes and grinds even when she’s frustrated beyond belief. but what differed in that match was how GOOD her stuff got as the match went on. phenomenal. PHENOMENAL.
