Why do we need to? We have an internationally agreed bill of rights.

During Lockdown 1 I built a bike shed at home. Was chatting to a mate and he said he wanted a project, and a bike shed seemed good...could I send him my plans and a cutting list for timber. Next day we were both inundated with adverts for prefab and build your own sheds. We'd spoken over WhatsApp.

These are things that we are reall very, very good at. We should be investing more money to these sectors. And these things make us happy!

First bird of my day, a Robin, scalding me from a bush in the pre-dawn gloom. Didn't see him until he flew across the road to another vantage point from which to continue his rebuke to my presence. #firstbirdofmyday

So now we have two parties hell-bent on trashing the environment on the altar of housebuilding all over our Green (and "Grey" 🙄) Belt. Start with change of use in our town centres, convert empty office space, build on Brownfield sites, and end land-banking.

To quote Andrew Griffith "Only we can inject reality, tell the hard truths and make this a country we are proud to hand on to the next generation." By scrapping Net Zero readiness in housing, trashing environmental regulators? Our children will have a shittier future then, won't they?

We certainly walked open-eyed into the Second Gulf War, against any reliable evidence of genuine grounds to fight it. Hundreds of thousands died unnecessarily. Then there was Afghanistan, a monumental fuck up.

Not so much the First World War. And it can be argued that the Russians bore the brunt in WWIi. But yes, they brought us massive amounts of hardware, and brave fighters. Since then, just mad colonial, religious wars.

Thc collective failure to acknowledge the shit we are in is totally baffling...these people pretend that they want to lead us, and in theory carry out the first duty of government, while all the time doing exactly the opposite. We need a revolution.

When we moved into our current house a pair of Jackdaws had a favourite chimney. The autumn after we moved in we had fumes from our gas fire. So we had the chimney swept, and out came a pile of sticks about 2m in circumference and 0.5m high. Busy birds Jackdaws...

One of our locals has Tribute on all the time. It has to be said it's a decent pint. And in Wendover there's a pub which is devoted to Landlord and Boltmaker, both good. BtW if you get a chance to sample the Tring monthly special "Shock Horror" it's a very tasty ESB, probably right up your street.

@stuartmaconie.bsky.social That @ track was superb...I kept thinking it was some previously unheard Elliot Smith song. Apart from the fact that it sounded far too "produced" to be Elliot. Great show today.

If Farage is so certain that "his" pure Brexit has never been enacted, why has he not devoted all his energies to haranguing the succession of governments who have failed? Maybe because he's a self-serving tosser?

There was a Devon holiday back in 1995 (?) when Doom was everywhere, and it wasn't at all bad. But, as you say, ruined by mass production. Too many pubs near me have this and/or London Pride*. I have to take avoiding action! Thankfully, there are some brilliant ones serving a wide variety.

In Tring we're quite a long way out of "Town" and our station is a long way out of our town...but Brill (in Bucks, beyond Aylesbury) was once part of the Metropolitan Line, so here's a theoretical sign... Love this roundel generator by @pixelframe.bsky.social

This new record is a (another) change of direction, and from what what I've heard is beautiful. Her older stuff was sort of electro pop, then she became more conventional, but as always her voice is incredible. Check out a tune called "Undercover" for the range and the power, and the control.

In 2003, the U.S. military bombed Iraq’s national seed bank in Abu Ghraib, effectively eliminating hundreds of varieties of indigenous seeds adapted to growing in the drought-prone desert climate. A year later, U.S. law prohibited Iraqi farmers from seed saving. (First published in 2025 by Prism)
