Happy Bijoya Dashami / Dusshehra to all who celebrate. Growing up in Ranchi, I have many happy childhood memories of the Pujo pandal, the mesmerizing rhythm of the dhaks, hanging with friends, eating puchka and other treats from the surrounding stalls, the smell of fireworks, and the sight of […]

[food/drink] OK here is a non-alc non-caffeinated autumn beverage I invented a few minutes ago - I shall call it a White Maple: Grind up: * 3 cloves * 3 allspice * 2 cardamom pods Shake with 4 oz of any kind of milk you like and a good slosh of maple syrup. Then strain into a glass.

The thing I don't like about a strictly reverse-chronological RSS feed is that people who don't blog/post very often get drowned out by those who do. It also creates a bit of reading FOMO where one feels the need to "catch up" to the last unread thing instead of just enjoying stray things […]

Nowadays I love seeing typos and minor spelling/grammar mistakes because they indicate human writing. (At some point people will start prompting LLMs to do this to better impersonate humans, but for now this works.)

I feel like a lot of people's conception of ableism goes like this: 1. Bad people are ableist. 2. I'm not a bad person. 3. Therefore I'm not ableist. (And of course the same for racism, sexism, etc)

Yes, it kinda sucks we have to do this. Yes, it's possible that people posting AI slop could also pretend it's human created, but for now at least, most AI slop on the web tends to be written by professional AI promoters who truly believe using AI to create "content" is nothing to be ashamed of.
