Kind of like what we're doing now with the jobs report?

Giving a blind student access to a note taker, or allowing someone with learning disabilities to take their test in a quiet room, doesn't give them an advantage over their fellow students, it's simply levels the playing field, which is what accommodations are designed to do.

What do all of these things have in common? 1. Buying Greenland 2. High tariffs in Brazil, China, India and Vietnam 3. Narcoterrorists in Venezuela 4. Christians in Nigeria Answer: rare earth minerals

I get your frustration. If there's a silver lining to all of this, maybe it's that it shows there's division in the caucus and it's time for new leadership. The Old Guard was never going to do anything about income and wealth inequality, in fact, a lot of it was their fault. It's time for a change.

Standing up and fighting is what helped them win a shit ton of elections on Tuesday, and that's not nothing.

Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
A lot of people did suffer, and there is no good in that, but their standing up to begin with is probably what helped them do so well on Tuesday.

People's health insurance costs aren't going to go up immediately because the motion passed, but people are going to be able to eat because it did.

Got it. I thought Democrats were upset at the President for not spending funds the way Congress had authorized, so it sounded weird that he would be forced to do exactly that. To be honest, I don't really understand how funding works, so I'm just going to say thanks for answering my question.
020
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
That doesn't sound right. Because you were not in compliance, we are going to force you to illegally redirect money to fully fun SNAP?
110
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
I don't understand how they could force the administration to pay more than the contingency fund. I would think the difference between the full amount and the contingency fund would have to be authorized by Congress.
101
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
That could have taken a week, maybe longer, and in the meantime people are hungry and they've got no money for food. If it had gone to SCOTUS, I think they would have forced him to use all of the contingency fund, but that's it, and that wasn't enough to fully fund the month of November.

Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
Exactly. If every Democrat had voted yes and put forth that exact same message, voters would have understood. But the only thing that sucks more than the Democratic Party's leadership, is their ability to message.

Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
The only way that Democrats come out ahead a year from now is if the ACA credits don't get renewed and Republicans get blamed. I don't want people's rates to go up or to lose their insurance, but I also like my democracy, & unless we get Republican voters to switch their vote it's not looking good.
100
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
And if they message it right, they can be seen a saving 40 million people from starving.
210
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
I don't understand why anyone thinks the House, the Senate, and the President of the United States we're all going to go along with extending the ACA credits. That was never going to happen. They got to be seen as fighters before the last election, and insured that 40 million people wouldn't starve.
070
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
At the end of the day, they voted to make sure 40 million people didn't starve. That's the message. That really should be the Democrat's message.
210
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
It doesn't have to be this way though. Stop protesting at ICE facilities. There's too many people doing stupid shit so they can get on TV. Have them in a park or at City Hall, or better yet, spend your time and energy making sure all of your neighbors are registered to vote. We win with numbers.
000
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
That's why ICE is being so violent. And it's only going to get worse when they hire more less experienced, more violent agents. People will protest, Trump will invoke the Insurrection Act, and he'll keep the troops on the streets to act as a deterrent to voting, or straight up cancel the elections.
110
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
Because it demonstrated before the recent elections that Democrats were willing to fight. But they were never going to win this fight. The House was never going to renew the ACA credits. Now they can also run on the President of the United States being willing to let poor people starve.
110
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
I think you would agree that democracy is in trouble. I think you would also agree that if Democrats don't take the House in 2026, democracy is in BIG trouble. So answer me this: does renewing the ACA credits gain Democrats any votes? How about if Republicans take the blame for not renewing them?
100
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
The House was never going to extend the ACA credits. Never. This was the best they could do. Oh yeah, and it ensures that 40 million people aren't going to go hungry. That's a pretty good message.
110
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
They also insured that 40 million people wouldn't go hungry.
100
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
I get that it was beneficial for Democrats to be seen as fighting. But what would they have gained at the ballot box if they had gotten the ACA credits extended? All they would have done was maintain the status quo, and Republican voters are not going to switch their vote for that.

Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
Project 2028 has a much better sound than Project 2026.
120
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
The only way there's political consequences for the Republicans is if the ACA credits don't get renewed. If Democrats had held out to get them renewed, all they would have done was maintain the status quo, and not a single Republican voter would have changed their vote as a result.
000
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
This is the best deal you're going to get. The President of the United States was going to let 40 million people go hungry. Getting people fed is more important than someone's health insurance rates possibly going up.
000
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
What do Democrats win if they fight? How does it benefit them at the ballot box if they get these ACA credits extended? It doesn't because all they did was maintain the status quo. Voters who feel no pain will vote the exact same way they did the last time.
000
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
Extending the ACA credits does nothing for Democrats at the ballot box. Democrats need voters to blame Republicans when election time comes around for losing those benefits.
000
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
How do Democrats benefit at the ballot box by extending the ACA credits? Answer is they don't, because all they did was maintain the status quo. I know people need those subsidies, but our democracy needs them to be pissed off enough at Republicans for taking it away that they vote for Democrats.
000
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
No, we don't. We need 435 candidates in the House, and 33 in the Senate, to run their own races, just like Sherrill, Spanberger and Mamdani did. You break out a Project 2026 and all of a sudden they're running on that, and not on what's best for the constituents in their district.
210
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 25/09/2025
There are simply too many voters who grew up in paternalistic families and will never vote for a woman for President. The only way around that is to have an Obama-esque candidate who can get the people who never vote off the couch. And she ain't that candidate.

Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 25/09/2025

I'm not talking about skippers or flippers. I'm talking about people who almost never vote. I think they're gettable. I think they're more gettable than skippers and flippers. I think if you go to them with the right candidate and the right message, you can get him up off the couch.
000
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 15/08/2025
Another option is to spend the next year making sure the 90 million people who didn't vote in the last election are registered, and then for Democrats to come up with a message that inspires them to vote. And no, that message can't be Donald Trump sucks.

Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 07/08/2025
Her age is only relevant as it pertains to her experience. Personally, I'm not a fan of anyone running for Congress who hasn't held political office before. Run for city council, board of supervisors or something local. Gain some experience, show me you can be effective, and then run for Congress.
000
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 06/08/2025
Love the segment, especially where you talk about how Mamdani activated voters who had sat out previous elections. The key for Democrats going forward is to create a message that will inspire the 90 million people who didn't vote in the last election to get up off their ass.
120
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 05/08/2025
People say that Democrats have a messaging problem, but I think the problem is they don't like to define themselves. It's the whole big tent thing, they don't want to piss anybody off. LGBTQ+ issues are a great example. I am curious if you ask Republicans the same questions though.

The same could be wondered about Gabbard, Habba, Noem and to a certain extent Leavitt. The first three are totally unqualified for the positions they hold, and yet here we are.

Trump could also use sanctions/sanctions relief to get Iran to stop sending drones to Russia.

That's crazy. Foreign exchange students basically subsidize the tuition of every California resident attending a CSU. But I guess if one of your goals is to have a less educated population, then this makes sense.
010
Tom Ford @trford.bsky.social · 30/07/2025
Did you take into consideration that many of the skippers skipped because they just won't vote for a woman? Kind of remember something similar happening in 2016. And if I were the Democrats, I'd worry less about the skippers and the flippers, and focus on the 90 million people who didn't vote.

Of course if Joe Biden had decided that it was more important to fill the seat, then to appoint the first Muslim to serve on the federal appeals court, then we wouldn't have been in this situation to begin with.
