Well, I can tell you for certain that the rent doesn’t cover all of my costs. I’m not saying that I’m typical - but that was the point of my original post before I got piled on….that not all landlords are the same e.g accidental landlords like me so we shouldn’t be tarred with the same brush.

Nationally owned social housing is good but it’s not available everywhere & not suitable for many tenants e.g those looking for medium term lets.

Not for the last few years because I bought when the market was strong (& prices high). It’s since gone down considerably so the value fell. I’ve been wanting to sell for ages. It’s picked up a little this year so hopefully I can sell next year without making a loss.

You haven’t got a clue have you. Do you really think if there were no rental properties tomorrow that everyone would be skipping along merrily getting affordable mortgages & rushing to buy a property. And what about if they are working away for a year. Do they buy a property for a year?

I don’t make any profit. I wanted to sell but the sales market has been poor because of a lack of demand & the cost of mortgage and deposit. If I’d sold I’d have made a considerable loss which I can’t afford. Hopefully I can sell next year.

But they don’t cover all the costs such as the service charge, ground rent, maintenance costs. They also don’t have to find a large mortgage deposit. My point which seems lost on everyone is that many people prefer to rent and many landlords (like me) are only renting to cover their own costs.

Because high mortgage and deposit costs have impacted on demand to buy such properties and I can’t afford to sell at a loss (I’m an accidental landlord not running a business). Also many people prefer to rent such properties than buy.

I never claimed to be a humanitarian just as you clearly don’t claim to be polite. However I am not making money on this - I’m just about covering my costs before I am able to sell. The tenant wants to rent on a medium term basis and not buy.

I haven’t been able to sell which is why I’m renting it. It’s a 1 bed city centre flat & many people prefer to rent such properties (often for work) rather than commit to an expensive mortgage & large deposit. Please don’t presume to understand things or people’s circumstances when you don’t.

You haven’t got a clue. It’s a one bedroom flat in a city centre. Many people prefer to rent such properties on a medium term basis rather than commit to an expensive mortgage & deposit (which is why demand to buy is less than demand to rent). I want to sell but that relies on there being buyers.

Rubbish. Im not hoarding it. Also many people can only or prefer to rent on a medium term basis (perhaps to be close to work) rather than commit to buying a property. Also property prices are not explicitly related to available housing stock but to type of property & location.

Whoever the Labour Party choose as leader it MUST be someone who has broad appeal across the country not just with party members. We’ve been there before (Foot, Corbyn) with predictable disastrous results. Party members very rarely reflect the views of the general public.
