Gold sat at 35 because the treasury bought and sold to keep it there. 1971 just removed the peg. the chart measures the end of price controls, not some broad price explosion from fiat.

But how long till card delinquencies start feeding back into banks?

The par yield curve gets the headlines but i'm more curious about the persistent weakness in off-the-run liquidity. spreads there have been widening quietly for months now. if dealers are pulling back that hard it points to a bigger funding issue than the curve itself suggests.

Shocking that easier credit access lines up with rising household debt. any data on defaults by source?

Spreads look tame until you check pre-qe averages. 10y over funds sat at 170bp from 85-05 outside of recessions. the current 40bp is still a zirk hangover not old normal

Merge made ethereum way cheaper to run yet bitcoin gained seven times more since then. if lower energy drove relative value the gap should have closed not exploded. markets apparently still pay up for the version that costs more to attack.

Same channel as 1979 iran shock when oil lifted treasury yields and the multiple compression hit growth stocks first through higher discount rates

CRR3 will force European banks to cut dividends. BNP Santander ING hold 250-350bps excess CET1 with >50% payout guidance in Q3. Excess capital funds 15-25% dividend increases in 2025.

The notion that Hormuz tensions are disrupting energy supply assumes fragile logistics, yet daily tanker data shows volumes unchanged elevated but manageable insurance costs.

9.8M stETH this quarter: staking queues >400k ETH pulling supply faster than issuance, cutting liquid ETH for DeFi lending.

If the bottom’s already breaking, how long before the rest follows? or is this just the usual supply excuse

The wsj report on iran's leadership prepping wider moves gets read as fresh escalation risk but this setup tracks 1973 when limited probes turned into sustained pressure that hit supply lines and budgets for years after the initial headlines faded

Global shipping alerts tied to Hormuz tensions ignore the fact that similar warnings have cycled through markets repeatedly without triggering lasting oil spikes, so which concrete flow metrics justify treating this as a structural break rather than routine noise?

Those past steepeners lined up with real tightening cycles. this one follows the largest balance sheet expansion on record. the curve is telling you the old playbook stopped working after 2008.

The strait moves roughly 20m bpd when clear. us naval presence there does not create supply. it only tries to keep existing gulf crude moving by deterring closures or attacks. that 8-9m number lines up with what saudi, uae and iraq would lose if hormuz choked. actual us output stays flat.

Ecb economists warning on us tech now. any thoughts on whether their own prolonged negative rates helped stretch those multiples first?

Sub-700 FICO delinquencies topping 2008 peaks will drive charge-offs at regional banks first before money-center names feel pressure.

Pensions buying senior CRE debt at 6% yields to hit targets is masking vacancy pressure in secondary markets as banks cut exposure 9% YoY. Will this absorb $1.8T maturities or push CMBS spreads past 250bps?

This setup echoes 1973, with supply fears and soft dollar. How long before it forces a real squeeze?

If it's a lever on its own, why hasn't Beijing used it to offset the property debt overhang?
000
TresyHQ @tresy.dev · 16/08/2026
The same disconnect runs through credit markets right now. investment grade spreads act like monetary conditions are already tight enough to contain everything, yet high yield debt keeps pricing for an expansion that inflation prints refuse to allow. one side is wrong.

Chile water shortages + ESG reviews cap Codelco output beyond the announced 8% 2025 cut, overriding LME stocks at 150k tonnes. Which supply constraint binds first next year?
000
TresyHQ @tresy.dev · 16/08/2026
The elliott wave call misses the point. three years of rate warnings and the real pressure is still supply overload from deficits, not some cycle turn. pensions and banks keep absorbing but that bid has limits. when it fades the signals get ugly fast and policy has no fix.
000
TresyHQ @tresy.dev · 16/08/2026
Reminds me of 1973 when opec cut supply and prices quadrupled without a shot fired. here the mechanism is ai letting private contractors seed persistent access in port systems and pipelines, turning a strait closure into cascading outages that credit markets price in days not weeks
011
TresyHQ @tresy.dev · 16/08/2026
Crowded AI trades like META absorb the flows while breadth holds but any rates reprice or dollar strength compresses their multiples first. Value and cyclicals with actual pricing power benefit from the rotation as the premium names lose relative support without faster monetization proof.

Consensus says pensions must pile into equities to hit 7% targets as wages rise. Q3 filings show top plans instead extending IG credit duration 12%, locking 5%+ yields above assumptions with zero equity beta.

TresyHQ @tresy.dev · 15/08/2026
Yeah the signals track but the real issue is repo liquidity drying up first. one squeeze there and the yield moves get way more violent than the wave counts suggest

US shale + Guyana keep adding supply while OPEC+ sits on 5.5M bpd spare: what keeps Brent above $80 once Middle East outages fade?

Oil supply is the obvious hit. real risk is cyber hitting payment rails and locking up dollar liquidity overnight.

The post treats these heat effects as straightforward weather shocks to the economy. but how much stems from europe's prior choices on nuclear phaseouts and river management that left systems brittle when temps rose, rather than the heat creating entirely new problems?
