Trauma is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children. Children have unique injury patterns and substantial differences in their response to trauma when compared with adults; this requires special consideration when addressing the assessment and management of pediatric trauma.
A healthcare provider wearing white gloves holds a patient’s finger fitted with a pulse oximeter sensor. Overlaid text reads “Multisystem Trauma” and, below it, the French translation “Polytraumatisme.” At the top, a small label says “Healthcare Provider Resource,” and at the bottom, a blue banner reads “Ressources pour les prestataires de soins de santé.” The TREKK logo appears in the lower right corner on a blue gradient background with red, blue, and purple accent lines. Would you like to help influence how the latest knowledge in children’s emergency care is mobilized across Canada? TREKK is looking for volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors! Please see the image for more details and to learn how to apply.
Join our Board of Directors. Are you interested in an opportunity to guide, shape, and influence how the latest knowledge in children’s emergency care is mobilized across Canada? Would you consider bringing your skills and knowledge to an established and well-supported national not-for-profit organization? Translating Emergency Knowledge for Kids (TREKK) is looking for applicants to serve on its Board of Directors, with the following key requirements: Proven Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams. Governance Experience: A strong understanding of nonprofit governance, including strategic planning, decision-making, and oversight. Fundraising and Grant-Seeking Expertise: Experience in fundraising efforts, securing grants, and cultivating relationships with donors to support the organization's purpose. Most acutely ill and injured children in Canada are managed within emergency departments that are not part of a children’s hospital. Difficulties in getting the right resources and training have been cited as barriers to providing the best possible care in these settings. This has resulted in significant variations in the emergency care provided to children in Canada. TREKK launched in 2011 as a knowledge mobilization network to address these critical knowledge gaps. TREKK aims to improve emergency care for children by co-designing and sharing resources with families and healthcare providers. This is a volunteer position. Approximately 2-5 hours per month. The Board of Directors meets quarterly via a 1 ½ hour virtual meeting, with one in-person, full day meeting each year (typically in the Fall). Travel and accommodations for meetings are arranged and covered. One 3-year term with the option to renew. Please send a letter of intent (including relevant experience, why this position of interest to you) to Megan Bale-Nick, Program Manager, at megan.balenick@umanitoba.ca by May 16, 2025.
