37. Since this was an early TOS novel (#18, published in 1984), there weren’t any references to self-sealing stembolts (or Chateau Picard 😊). However, there were a few callbacks to earlier TOS episodes. What were some of your favorite Trek references in #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly? #TrekBookClub

For me, Trek has meant a sense of optimism of the future, discovering new worlds, meeting new people and learning from them. I also like the scientific exploration of our universe. I think it will be at least 3 - 5 years after SNW S5 ends before we see Trek on TV. #TrekBookClub (1/2)

What I like best about Trek is the notion that humanity learns and grows across the long centuries, never achieving the perfection of the Organians, perhaps, but always improving themselves. Modern Trek has lost its way. It doesn’t know what it’s about. 1/2 #TrekBookClub

Heavy questions. I enjoyed the worldbuilding in Trek, but also the social commentary. The characters resonate the most as well as the idea of the UFP. I'd like to see a series set in the 25th century but that might be asking too much. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

With turning 60 this year. I feel a strong connection to Star Trek since I am the same age. My first exposure was the TAS, my first live episode was This Side of Paradise. Trek will always be important to me. I wish this world would be like Trek. #TrekBookClub ##StarTrek#MyEnemyMyAlly

I call it the "Han Solo maneuver" It's exciting. The situation is dire, the audience had no idea how the heroes can get out of this, then someone swoops in to save the day. It's a huge relief to the audience--since it's a happy ending now. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

34. The book ends with Kirk beaming down to Sespe (near Los Angeles, California) while the Enterprise was undergoing repairs to perform one final task. How was he able to honor Ael? Did this novel make you more sympathetic toward the Romulans? #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

I agree with both of Mary’s points, and I would add that there was almost too much time spent on the research station, it’s a lot of pages! But beaming over to Intrepid was a clever move. #TrekBookClub

I have to say Nahrat's adventure on the Big E was my favorite. I like to see another member of the Federation working in Starfleet. I loved the Horta because they are unique and we hardly see them anymore. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

She thought Vulcans hid behind logic because they were too weak to fight. The Intrepid crew proved that was incorrect. She was impressed with how their clarity of thought helped them in battle (reminded me of Shaxs' security team in "Empathological Fallacies." #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

31. Based on an idea from Ael, Captain Suvuk used the Sunseed program to defeat some of the pursing Romulan fleet. The rest of the Federation fleet arrives to help. Why does the "cavalry arriving just in time" been a popular storytelling trope? #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

This was such a shock, I had to go back and check to see "isn't Tafv her son?" Family member as betrayer is one of my favorite tropes. She never suspected her own son. She was confident that he & all the other officers shared her moral code. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

The biomatter that was harvested from Vulcans. This material would be then grafted to Romulan patients to allow them the mental telepathy and other mental powers of Vulcans to give Romulans a upper hand in their clandestine operations. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

Nice work by Duane extrapolating from The Enterprise Incident where the commander whispers her name to Spock. Clearly names have significance, and Duane expands upon that. What an era this was, when so much was unknown about these characters. The galaxy was a blank canvas! #TrekBookClub

They had to trust one another. It had to look believable but they were leaving themselves vulnerable to attack--Bloodwing by the Enterprise, or vice versa--if Kirk or Ael double-crossed one another. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

It's always fun to see a good team-based deception sequence in the story (a la Mission: Impossible). This was a sign that the two teams support each other and can work together to achieve their common goal. #TrekBookClub

Space is an economy on Romulan ships, so she views the Enterprise as luxurious (I'm sure the rec room was a shock). Plus, she's very surprised at the diversity in the ship's crew since Romulans don't have that-- officers are all Romulan. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekMyEnemyMyAlly

It was the theft of the Intrepid that swung everyone’s opinion. Smart move by Duane, having everyone reject the plan as far-fetched before the Intrepid gets stolen. That addresses the reader’s own reaction and helps get us over our own skepticism. #TrekBookClub
