This plate is more than 100 years old! The hummingbird painted at the top, an Avocetbilled Hummingbird, looks quite different these days! It's bill isn't nearly as dramatically bent.

A handpainted plate dating to the turn of the 19th century features a green hummingbird with a dramatically upswept bill and a long-tailed red and gold hummingbird. The birds are perched on branches that have pink trumpet flowers and yellow wildflowers.

Took a trip to see the birds today. We heard a bunch of birdsong but didn't get any bird photos. But here are some wildflowers!

Ultimately, I wasn't able to go to the protests yesterday. A Portland police officer broke my thumb at a May Day event in 2001. My body remembers the terror and the pain and would not let me go. I admit this because we all have lines we can't cross. We all #Resist in our own ways. See y'all Sat.

This is a large white sign with black marker which begins "I'm upset about: (and incomplete list in no particular order)" The entire rest of the sign is a steam-of-consciousness list of issues with the current administration which starts out neatly, but devolves into a mess of statements crowded into all the spare space. The statements are not a full listing of all the problems upsetting me right now, but I will keep adding things until we get to the march tomorrow.
