I think the mentality is different in the Saturn and Dreamcast scene due to how few translations we used to get before the 2020s. Something like the NES/Super Nintendo/Genesis it's a lot more easy due to how many variations of translations exists for numerous games.

It's a big worry I have, I don't want to have some half baked AI projects becoming the main go to patch for certain titles. While we report on these projects to make people aware of the state of the scene and if AI was used in said project, it doesn't mean we support AI being used as such.

The lede was never buried by any fansites. The translator didn’t send us or any of the sites covering it the readme regarding the use of AI until it went public. We and several others updated our article on said translation as soon as we found out and disclosed it’s use.

I’ve been noticing this creep into the space as of recent. I am all for civil discussion on topics and potential avoiding things if necessary, but I’ve never been told to kms or threatened with violence/theft so often now since GG. Tension is high, but it’s time for people to set a better example.

I always wondered why there never was one. I figured because the RGB was really good looking it never crossed anyone's mind to try an HDMI mod. Though with the MiSTer core maybe an HDMI mod isn't really too necessary anymore.

I've been working with our team to start marking the use of AI in fan translation projects for Saturn so people can see at a glance before they decide to play them.

It's becoming more and more prevalent sadly, and harder to report on some of these projects without coming off as supporting them rather than letting people know it's using AI. Now AI projects are stepping on toes of non-AI projects such as the Grandia Museum translation, and they don't even work.

That's also been my thinking as well. There are a lot of affordable options to play from SD Cards such as the Saroo and Fenrir that aren't too difficult to install. Moving forward I think it will be my approach to most consoles as well, on top of a MiSTer.

Classic SEGA Saturn cable mistake. I think it's well known a few old diagrams posted online swap them around, though I've never seen the port itself having the audio channel swapped.. Think that's a new one for me.

There are valid discussions to be had about the use of ML in translations, where it draws the line, and where it’s acceptable for testing. I don’t think harassing people is the way to do it though.

I know people are upset about the SGGG translation, but can we stop attacking people for covering it? It’s definitely worth to talk about, but stop harassing people that had little to nothing to do with the creation of it, especially if they had no knowledge any ML was used in it’s development.

I'm really happy Saroo is carving out it's own niche in the ODE market. It was already pretty good at the price point, but now with PhotoCD and MPEG support it could become the go to ODE. It's got a bit of a way to go, but the potential and features are really cool!
