I have a slight temperature. (I know this because I dug out my old lockdown thermometer for the first time in five years.) And I’m a little bit shivery.

Gulls come in for a lot of criticism because people don’t understand them. I love the silly seabirds, even when they’re nowhere near the sea. youtu.be/hTcbhwA02fM

Feeling too unwell to hang around on my usual walk home, even though my young gull mate showed up and started chattering away the moment it saw me. It definitely recognises me. I apologised for not having any food to offer. I think it might think I’m its mum.

That’s Life! was just incredible. Its two most famous moments are a man being movingly celebrated by the now grown Jewish children he got out of Nazi Germany & a dog saying “sausages”. No other programme has ever had that range.

When you’re looking forward to the coffee and croissant at Truro but discover you can’t taste either. I probably should’ve stayed home. But I think there’s that thing about having to prove yourself a bit more when you’re an older worker. Youngsters don’t go sick, do they?

I made it to the shop and the sea without getting rained on, but today I can feel the cold.

Spent quite a lot of today in a fever doze. About to attempt to get up and ready to go to the shops, now it’s stopped raining. This time last week I was recovering from the hospital appointment and waiting to see if they were going to evacuate us or not. (The bomb has now been exploded out at sea.)

It’s a glorious morning, but unfortunately this bug is making me feel like death warmed up. I had one of those nights where you wake feverishly every single hour, convinced it must be nearly dawn.

I really don’t feel well. I wish I hadn’t gone to stay with my friends at the weekend. There’s nowhere else I could have caught this bug. And I was doing so well with exercise.

I got back indoors just in time. The squall has returned with a vengeance. 46mph gusts and the flood warning now includes the Fal estuary.

You can’t tell from the photo but the waves are spraying the coast path and the wind blew me effortlessly up the lane home. Where I found a familiar visitor sheltering in the gazebo.

I was supposed to attend the Poly drinks and AGM this evening, plus the screening of a short Cornish film after, but I’m a bit too groggy. Still need to go out and get bread though, if the weather lets up.

I think it should be possible for a patient to offer amendments to notes. I haven’t had the results yet on my recent hospital visit, but the notes have been uploaded to my file. They are mostly as I would have reported them but I note, as always, a certain slant in interpretation of the discussion.

It’s that time of year again: flood alert Lands End to Lizard Point. Spring high tide this evening and increasingly strong winds.

My timeline is full of people moaning about the speech before he gave it. All you had to was wait a few hours, watch/listen/read it and the form a view rather than just constant miserablist and despair. It's simply not healthy.

it’s incredible that dogs have figured out how to outsource their cognition to humans. they will literally stare at you and it makes you uncomfortable enough to try to figure out what they want. the dog might not even know! but you’ll start doing things for the dog until you do something they want.

I had lots planned for today but I woke up with sniffles and a bit under the weather, so slept for a while at lunchtime. Feeling a bit better now. I suppose I’ll have to start wearing less summery clothes. I’ve paid quite casual attention to the temperatures recently.

We’ve spent many, many hours over the past few months searching the rock pools of Cornwall for a rainbow sea slug. Today, we finally found one! Absolutely worth all the time we’ve spent - it was truly breathtaking.

I kind of resent being asked to ‘name a film with a female director’, much in the same way as I resent being asked to ‘name a female-fronted band’ or a ‘female author’. It’s 2026. Women have been doing things for centuries now.
