I knew someone in high school who was a foster kid and it was clear her takers just did it for the tax write off. Very abused. We did our best for her at school but we were kids too. I lost contact with her in college. Put me off "adoption" forever. I'm so sorry you went through that.

My dog cried for days after I got him because he missed his mother. It was real. He's an excellent dog, devoted and wonderful, a therapy animal as well as a working dog, but I would never dismiss that separation.

Yep. My dogs are dogs, not people. I love them absolutely but they're not people. I despise the term "fur baby". Have I taken the role of parent/leader in their minds of our little pack? Yes, but I'm not their actual parent and they know that. People are so disconnected from the natural world.

Inside again. I hate it. I do get to watch the dogs though. I take baths at hotels because we don't have one at home. One of the dogs hates watching me take one. He cries. I don't know what he thinks is happening.

I prefer reform over destruction re: NYC carriage horses, but it's done. I doubt those horses go anywhere good. Astounded by the # of people saying "send them to a sanctuary" uhh...they're not tigers. Domestic animals cost a lot of money, especially if they're no longer earning any.

They kind of played down Seabiscuit's pedigree too in the film. A grandson of Man o' War out of a Whisk Broom mare was not some dirt pedigree, lol. Actually very good, and he ran to it. I love the film but my obsessive racing fan brain has to correct.

I need new guy to stop detailing his every thorn scrape to me. There's a way you learn to walk in the woods. Not saying you'll never get a scrape, but there's a way to do it and do it quickly that's not just blundering around getting spiders in your face and thorns in your thighs.

If I made a game called Survey no one would play it. You have to dodge the spiders at face level and the snakes at boot level and also not get stuck in thorns or fall off a cliff while simultaneously constantly judging landform disturbance and spotting stuff like rusty metal cans in the leaves.

Won't post the photo because dead animal, but we found a massive rat in the forest today. Like, longer than my boot. Snake-bit, pretty clear double puncture wound and signs of hemorrhage, so rattlesnake. No sign of the snake. Never seen a rat dead or alive just wild before here. Kind of cool.

And Secretariat's height was average, 16.2 hh, he was just oddly wide. Even Zenyatta and Phar Lap and Midnight Lute were not 18 hh. I got curious last night and did some searching, only found 3 18 hh racehorses. 2 Australian, 1 British jumps racing.
