There is nothing in Platner's platform that is remotely Fascist, and a fair bit that is explicitly anti-Fascist. One tattoo does not a Nazi make. But being a member of the Republican party in 2026 ABSOLUTELY makes you a Nazi. Either way, we'll find out after November.

Their stated platform should serve as the foundation of our understanding of a candidate. It's what we should judge their actions against in order to get a better sense of their politics. I have no reason as of yet to assume he's lying, so I will take him at his word. For now, at least.

Most Americans wouldn't know that was a Nazi tattoo. And the overwhelming majority of his rhetoric is progressive/socialist. I find it far more likely that a dumb marine got a Nazi tattoo on accident than that he's been building a progressive digital footprint for years as a Fascist trojan horse.

He's not a Nazi. He did get a Totenkopf tattoo, which a branch of the Nazis used, but it's also a skull and crossbones, one of the most common designs there is. You are beyond ridicules if you think most Americans would know that just by looking, let alone a 20 something, crayon-eater.

The full context makes it clear that he thinks it's more involved than that. He's talking about systemic intervention, re-education, to get them to the point where they are healthy enough to get those things as a better person. Also he's clearly being hyperbolic.

I will admit that it's possible I'm being duped. I've known people like Platner, people who had reactionary views in the past that later went on to educate and better themselves, and so maybe I'm giving undue grace. But will you admit that you might be wrong too? That maybe he means what he says?
