While I see the potential for glory in 2), I would still go for 1). A replacement bus is no regular bus, but, in my opinion at least, counts as a train. I would hate to see your attempt fail 😭

Reminds me of the madness a certain Andy Scheuer tried in Germany. Same idea, make everyone pay, adjust taxes so that foreigners pay the bill. Got rejected by the EU. Hope same happens here.

Die Reise fängt gut an: @kvbag.bsky.social behauptet, Linie 1 komme erst in 20 Minuten. Zu spät für Anschluss in Köln. Ergo: Uber. Nice to hear that things seem to be working out for you! On my side, I saw the strangest of warnings pop up next to my night-train in SNCF-Connect-App. At the guichet in Arcachon they told me "pas de souci", but I won't be reassured before I see the train depart Tarbes 😳

That really is a fine journey, Cologne to Mainz, with a view on the river, its vineyards, its castles and its amazing small towns like Boppard, Assmannshausen, Rüdesheim and so on. So many temptations to make a break 😁
