Did you notice that when the woman youtuber was a confirmed plagiarist everyone was happy to end her career forever but when the man youtuber is a confirmed rapist we suddenly get dozens of posts about how "disheartening" it is that people don't believe in restorative justice

Maybe projecting since that was me early in my career, but every time I learn a new piece of comic history, it turns out that there's another ten things I have still yet to learn. The constant learning is one of my favorite parts of this hobby.

I think the biggest problem with online comic book discourse is that many comic fans are the only person in their friend group that reads comics, so they're used to knowing the most. Take that to the internet and it's lots of "experts" going back butting heads since they're used to being top dog.

The spot in my office where my green screen and throne used to be.

Record player with a Cassiopeia album and dumpster fire vinyl figures.

Physically weighing my comic collection in 2014, a year after I started reading comics because I needed to make sure my new bookcase could handle it.

First video filmed at the new studio. I wonder what comic could warrant busting out the chains, spikes, skulls, and Canadian tuxedo.

I understand that when people say this website might as well be Twitter there’s nuance to that statement and their frustrations with Bluesky are 100% justified But when I see the way this userbase reacts to abuse victims coming forward vs the way Twitter does? It’s night and fuckin day.

Even if not trying to be rich, I still need to make SOME money to keep the channel running. It's a great opportunity to expand my roster of sponsors and network.

I could be making a hell of a lot more money on YouTube by pandering, but I like my firmly middle class life. 🤷‍♂️ I don't want to be rich and that BAFFLES these industry folks.

Going to an influencer industry convention this week and dreading every moment of it. 🫩 It's just a bunch of AI hype and ruthless obsession with monetization and engagement.

My family is all super young and I couldn't imagine raising a kid now in my thirties, let alone in my twenties. I feel a lot more forgiveness and understanding knowing that my folks were basically just kids trying to figure out their own lives.

Maybe a little TMI, but I'm having a tough go after realizing that I'm about to be as old as my step-mom was when she died. We had a complicated relationship, but her death had a big impact on me and this milestone is bringing a lot of introspection.

The internet is not forever and we can't just pretend that the Internet Archive will always be around. If there's internet history that you think is worth preserving, it's worth keeping local copies.

Drake (Lycan Subscribe) @trailerdrake.com · 23/09/2026

As a comic book historian, I've been noticing old comic interviews being erased from websites and because @archive.org is under constant threat of being defunded, I decided to start locally archiving any interviews that I use for research in my videos.

Drake (Lycan Subscribe) @trailerdrake.com · 22/09/2026

For as much as I love digital comics, this is why physical matters. I hope more webcomic artists are able to do some print runs so that fans can buy and own the work they love forever.

Taking a moment to shout out @pirateprincessjess.bsky.social. She's been invaluable in helping keep Comic Drake going as I balance working two jobs and has co-written plenty of my recent videos. Most of the best lines and my videos are 100% her doing.

As a born and raised Texan having to endure decades of "Don't California my Texas!", my suggestion once Talarico wins is to follow some advice that I have heard a million times from Republicans. "If you don't like it, leave!" Oklahoma would love to have y'all.

Todd McFarlane on treating comic books solely as an investment opportunity. Source: The Comics Journal #152 (1992)

"Spider-Man is such an ongoing title that a lot of people have been collecting it for years. They’re going to buy it no matter who draws it, my mom could draw it and still sell 250,000 copies. So, the only goal that I had was, “I hope they read it before they shove it in their plastic bags"

Drake (Lycan Subscribe) @trailerdrake.com · 20/09/2026

Say what you will about McFarlane's writing quality or loudmouth nature, but the dude's a businessman and understands how to actually sell products. There's a reason Spawn is still running when most other OG Image books have faded into obscurity.

Todd McFarlane on comic publishers refusing to actually advertise new books anywhere other than inside of other comic books. Source: The Comics Journal #152 (1992)

"In an Army base or one of the military bases. If you did an aerodynamic or aviation book, God forbid they’d actually put that into the Air Force. If you did a rock ‘n’ roll comic book, God forbid they’d advertise that in Rolling Stone. If they did a kiddie magazine, whew! You wouldn’t want to make a commercial of that. Kids are supposed to telepathically know that there’s a kiddie comic book out there and stop playing Nintendo and rush to their comic shop."
