iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I didn't organize my books by colour, but I see nothing wrong with it, & might do one room that way, just to see how it feels. BTW if all your Penguins from the 1950s are in one place, you've done that without intending to. So maybe we should be less uptight about The Visual.

Eig is gracious & thoughtful, but I wonder if this play will be part of the anti-Pill backlash. These stories (which have been known for years) can easily be weaponized by the disinformation brigade.

It's odd how aggressively gendered this is. Imagine if someone hired a bloke to play the role of Neurotic Dad or whatevs.

One idea @gothamist.com. Can we make the local NY vaccine guidance more prominent? Put that first? If someone reads the incorrect federal guidance, they might not read the whole piece, and they'll miss the all-important LOCAL guidelines. (Misinformation can be amplified by paragraph placement.)

gothamist.com/news/covid-h... Interesting. Covid 19, while not quite the same threat as in 2020, is still causing some deaths. And there's been a recent uptick. Stay informed, read this, and get regular shots.

This was our family dinner on many a Friday... don't forget the grated cheese, salad and crusty bread dipped in oil! We didn't know from wholewheat pasta or bread back then.

www.nytimes.com/2026/09/14/s... Mackie, in a 2008 interview with me, recalled telling Cher: “‘You can’t wear this to the Academy Awards. You’re giving an award — you’re going to upstage whoever you give it to.’” But Cher, he said, insisted: “She said, ‘Oh, they won’t mind, it’ll be OK.’”

Since they're almost the same person, that's probably good.

Current faves (tinned) are smoked sardines in olive oil, and whole sardines from Morocco. Season w ground cumin, empty entire darn thing over a bowl of wholewheat linguine. Maybe add red pepper flakes and extra oil.

LOVE learning about Saunders' role managing Eartha Kitt's live tours. If I understand chronology correctly, I was a beneficiary, having seen Eartha live in the 1990s whenever I could. Thank you FSS, being there with Eartha is no small matter. And now must read your cold war cultural history!

Didn't know that Bob Mackie worked with Miley Cyrus. Things we learn after death about people we knew, or knew of.

Sorry some are equating Atwood with Steinem. She is way different from Steinem who was a gender feminist. Atwood is not a gender feminist! And her fluffy speculative soap opera about the States ... that's not her best work. Read her memoir, it's a hoot.

Refreshing to have a New Yorker email that simply says New Fiction by Joyce Carol Oates. I prefer that to "a short story about" which often sounds conscientious or "woke," like parboiled veggies. Give us the veggie with butter, pureed with salt, or just the name of the author, thanks!

IMHO the real reason some ppl don't want the slavery story told? It's not because "white ppl will feel guilty." That's a scam. No, it's because the history of slavery is the history of canny rebellion. Ona Judge makes RW foot soldiers look like voluntarily enslaved patsies.
