A word of advice for teens working summer jobs – especially white boys who may not have been working with older folks before; For coworkers like the elderly grocery cashier who can’t hear well, has joint pain & uses oxygen this job isn’t the joke you think it is. So, she may be cranky & slower 1/2

Uh, that was South Bend. BECAUSE RESIDENTS, INCLUDING BLACK FOLKS, ASKED FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE. Abandoned bldgs were torn down after title searches, most which led to absentee landlords who were letting them rot. When owners were found to be struggling to a bring them to code, he worked w/ them.

He instituted paid family leave for city employees & created a municipal ID program for undocumented immigrants to help them access city services, & he carried one himself. as it would let people “vote with their feet,” toward Gov coverage unless union-negotiated programs were better. I believe over a short time those contracts would change but, in the meantime, his was the only plan that paid for itself. I lose patience with those who dismiss him as merely a good 2/3

I think a lot of your reservations would be set to rest if more coverage had been given to some of his plans. He is actually very progressive, but legacy media leans on narratives formed early. You mentioned health care, for which he proposed a glide path that could easily become universal 1/3
