The most empowering post I've seen all day. 💪

I mailed my overseas postal ballot from the UK very early. It cleared customs in Chicago on September 24th. It hasn't moved since, according to my tracking. My town clerk in Wisconsin says she has not received it yet. 🫤

I daren't even watch! What about The Climb by Miley Cyrus?

Shame I read this thirty minutes too late. 🤷

Nature really does do art better than anyone. A misty, atmospheric hike around #Larkbarrow #Exmoor this morning.

It looks almost unbelievably beautiful!

Ahhh, Dolly. From literacy programs for children, to vaccine research, to inclusion of all, and, of course, to the most wonderful songs, you were the best of us. RIP sweet lady. 💔

If I had known preparing my two wooden garden gates for painting today would make it rain, I'd have done it two months ago. My apologies to the farmers. 🙄

Where's King Arthur when you need him? Does the sword even work without him? How about U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

Well, that was an astrological bust. The Hubble colander was useless but I did catch a total eclipse of my hubby's head. I'm sure the networks will want my photos, right @simonparkintv.bsky.social ? 😆 #Eclipse2026

I'm reading My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite and came across the term 'maga'. Looking up the definition I found this: Nigerian Pidgin / Slang: A sucker, fraud victim, or an easily fooled person. So there you have it. 🤷

There should be a special word to describe the feeling when your editor says she loves your new novel. It's more than relief. It's more than excitement or validation for all the years of solitary toil. It's more. What is that word?📖 #writerslife #WIP #editing

Oh, how I loved this book. Looking back at our current times from one hundred years hence, it exposes our willful ignorance of climate change while following timeless love stories through a lost poem. Brilliant. #whatwecanknow

I think I have book apnea, where your eyes close and you briefly stop reading before startling awake to read again. There's no cure.

How about Northern Lights by Renaissance? And kudos to this lady for keeping the lights on.

I just apologized to a banking app AI assistant for not getting back to them. Is this good manners or insanity? 🤷

Ever since I saw him drag that piano through the streets in his 2010 Grenade video I've loved #BrunoMars' music. I finally got to see him at Wembley last night. What a voice! What an amazingly diverse catalogue of musical genres! Great show.

Three large screens showing Bruno Mars on stage at Wembley Stadium in front of a huge audience.

I'm impressed! I'm reading Factfulness by Hans Rosling et al. Apparently it will explain how things are better than you think and I need that right now. So does my dragonfly friend.

Tracey Gemmell @traceygemmell.bsky.social · 25/05/2026

This particular dragonfly ignored my fiction book but seems to be enjoying #Factfulness by Hans Rosling, Ola Rosling and Anna Rosling Ronnlund. Keep cool out there everyone!

I'd love a word for outrage that also denotes exhaustion with the cause of said outrage because this is where I am currently with the world. Maybe tired out by rage is in fact outrage? 🤔

Thank you for the suggestions. I didn't used to read much in the murder mystery area but discovered Louise Penny and really enjoyed her stories.

110

Tracey Gemmell @traceygemmell.bsky.social · 20/04/2026

I'd say recent psychological thrillers and anything that feels like Still Life by Sarah Winman or a Louise Penny Inspector Gamache murder mystery.

Sorry I missed the discussion this evening but let me introduce you to my new built-in bookcase. I'm going to need suggestions for the free spaces. 😆

Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey. Got to be worth a bob or two.

It was forty years ago and the middle of the night so no recollection of the book. The foal was lovely though.

I tried to read a book sitting on the floor of a stable waiting for a foal to be born once. Don't recommend it.

The cover of the Honesty Box doesn't do it justice either. F is a tough one!

010

Tracey Gemmell @traceygemmell.bsky.social · 23/03/2026

Wow! That's an achievement #devonbookhour! But it's so true, we can get stuck in a relatively small pool of genres and need others to help us break out.

It was a choice made by the Read With Yeovil book club and the author came to speak to the group. I never would have thought I'd enjoy it but it's so beautifully written and holds you like a novel.
