The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

▪️Given talks with a US consortium it seems DC values SWFC at around £350m, an extortionate figure. Although Wednesday’s finances are improved this is mainly due to little to no investment in the playing squad so what happens next if manager Danny Röhl does depart?

110 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

▪️Since taking over in 2015 SWFC have only invested £5m into infrastructure somewhere around 3%, under investment clearly hampering the club today ▪️Owner injected £10m last season after threatening not to do so. ▪️SWFC ok PSR wise for now 🧵

100 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

▪️Wednesday only spent £1.6m on transfers in 23/24 in comparison to also promoted Plymouth spent £3.2m. Stoke & Boro spent £19/18m last season. ▪️Summer 24 £3.5m gross spend still one of the lowest in the league. ▪️Compared to players sold net spend one of highest 🧵

100 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

▪️One of lowest squad values in the league currently. ▪️SWFC gross debt is now £68m nearly all directly owed to Dejphon Chansiri ▪️Debt would be higher if DC didn’t waive £21m in loans and convert £44m into share capital. ▪️Debt sustainable as long as owner provides funding 🧵

100 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

▪️Following promotion the clubs wage bill increased 38% £15.8m - £21.8m, still low for the championship. ▪️Transfer amortisation, paying for transfer fee over length of contract is one of the lowest in the league only Rotherham had lower last season, up to £0.8m from 0.4m 🧵

100 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

▪️Non parachute payment clubs received higher percentage of TV money from 24/25 ▪️Match day revenue higher than most championship clubs mainly due to 26k average attendance and ticket prices. Only Norwich & Boro higher for 23/24 accounts so far. ▪️Commercial income down 4% 🧵

100 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

▪️Owls revenue is around mid table in the championship but some way off some parachute payments rivals like Norwich who generate treble Wednesdays revenue. ▪️Parachute payments roughly worth Y1 - £48m, Y2 - £39m & Y3 £18m 🧵

100 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

▪️Club only generated £2.0m in player sales in four years, massive issue ▪️Lucas Joao last major player sold for over £3m in 19/20 ▪️Only sale so far this season Bambo Diaby £300k ▪️Operating costs £8.9m one of the smallest in the league only Plymouth have posted lower 23/24 🧵

100 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

Information on Sheffield Wednesday finances 23/24 ▪️Losses increased to £9.8m from £7.2m to cover competing in the championship with next to no player sales. ▪️Even though revenue had increased to £26.3m (club record) from £19.3m. ▪️Revenue increase from match receipts and TV money up 69% 🧵

They need a Moyes/Allardyce character to get them out of their current predicament. Unless they've already accepted relegation and are looking long term.

What you reckon? Do you think D Rohl is safe for now then?

100 1

The Obstructed View Podcast @tovcast.bsky.social · 17/12/2024

We ran a poll on the dark side 51% of SWFC fans are concerned about the Rohl link to Southampton the other 49% don’t believe he’d go or be approached. Let’s hope Southampton look elsewhere
