Feels like there's a lot of luck involved. Some combinations are much easier than others, even though the colour difference is the same

maybe you'll get a kick out of some of mine. these are just the ones above 1k (quality is terrible because I'm using geforce now instead of reinstalling warframe)

I'll say, Affinity Photo/Designer is a pretty reasonable alternative to Photoshop/Illustrator. They're not free (in both senses of the word), but they're a sensible one-time payment, and reasonable to get working on linux

VSCodium is what you're after. It's just VSCode without the telemetry, and LLM crap disabled by default.

I kinda feel like rhythm games are some of the most important use cases for higher refresh rate displays. I guess it depends on the game, but as an osu! player, 60Hz is night and day.

Depends who you're asking. If you want them to be true, you can argue that there's nothing that falsifies any of them. That's a vacuous truth. Conversely, you can argue that the first two conditions aren't meaningfully satisfed and therefore false.

I'm deliberately avoiding accusations. I'm asking you if that's the comparison you're making.
010
touc @touc.gay · 11/10/2025
Are you comparing the argument 'All games should be free' to 'I should be able to play the games that I buy'? That seems deliberately reductive, so I do feel the need to make sure I'm not misinterpreting your argument. People repeating arguments isn't what gives them merit, so I guess I agree there.

You can call it an oversimplification, and in my case it probably is. My point is that the movement garnered the support that it has because it isn't a complicated issue to most consumers. If you want to sway their views, you've gotta be saying 'we should do this' instead of just 'don't do that'.

Stop Killing Games is something that people very much support at a theoretical level. If you just say 'it doesn't work at a practical level' and fail to give any alternative, people are going to dislike. It's no more complicated than 'I want to play the games that I buy' for most people.

There is this uniquely left-leaning position wherein they need to justify their political opinions by debasing the people they hurt. Like they're clearly uncomfortable with stuff like this, but instead of needing to think about it, they'll justify it by saying 'well they clearly did something wrong'

That all being said, I think it's a good video that explains some esoteric but interesting information. I think it's pretty funny that you'd get annoyed by it enough to go post about it on bsky, but you do you I guess.

I've got my problems with 100th Coin's video—mainly that the title regards ALL Nintendo emulators, whereas the video only talks about the unimpactful failures of their NES emulators. I think their N64 and Gamecube emulators for the Switch are much worse and much more deserving of criticism.

TriCNES isn't designed for playing games. It only accepts input in the form of TAS files. It's an extremely accurate emulator for that purpose only. It runs fine on my 5 year old laptop.

touc @touc.gay · 10/09/2025
Accuracy isn't important to every emulator, but it is important that there are some emulators that are accurate.

The point was brought up that it does matter. You can ACE on some improperly emulated VRAM and desncy on real hardware. Is that deliberately contrarian? Maybe. How about the SMB1 TAS that desnycs on real hardware due to a skipped lag frame? It's okay if you don't care abouy that, but some people do.

Far Cry 4 was my introduction to the series, and it's still my favourite. I'd probably boot it up more often if I didn't need to install ubi connect...

'We provide a lot pf services to ensure a game remains playable' Doom provides no services, and it's been playable for 32 years. This isn't an unsolvable problem. It's not even a difficult problem

Some phones do have the ability to automatically match the refresh rate of a given piece of media, but you shouldn't rely on it. Afaik, all modern-ish phones have the ability to switch to 60Hz somewhere in settings, so maybe include a note about that in the video.

AI is a tool (sorry!) that people who are bad at their jobs will use badly and that people who are good at their jobs will maybe, possibly find some uses for. People who are terrible at their jobs (many executives), will tell their employees that they “need” to use AI, that their jobs depend on it, that they must become more productive, and that becoming an AI-first company is the strategy that will save them from the old failed strategy, which itself was the new strategy after other failed business models.

The only journalism business strategy that works, and that will ever work in a sustainable way, is if you create something of value that people (human beings, not bots) want to read or watch or listen to, and that they cannot find anywhere else.

Ideological purity trumps reality for these people. 'We refuse to compromise, even if it means a worse outcome' is exactly as stupid as it sounds, yet these people persist.

Oh yeah, I highly recommend it. Its the sort of game where, once it starts to click, you're rewarded with a kind of addictive satisfaction that you don't find in other games. Its a common answer because its something that you can only really play once, but its an absolute treat for that first time

touc @touc.gay · 07/06/2025
Yep, Metal Gear Solid 5 does this and it's a realistic strategy on occasion

Puzzle games are the perfect contenders. Return of the Obra Dinn would probably be my choice. It's been a few years since I first played it, so I might just have forgotten the solutions...

The rules don't explicitly forbid it. The closest they get is 'If a program does something that you should be doing yourself, it isn't oksy'. That being said, there is a 'If the rules don't cover it, it isn't necessarily allowed' clause. I wouldn't try it for more than a few plays.

Dunno if it's really different to any other dual-renderred scopes, but Delta Force: Task Force Dagger had a dual-renderred scope that didn't obscure your unscoped crosshair

God I hate apps that won't take 'No' for an answer? 'Not now'? How about not ever. 'Maybe later?' Maybe I'll uninstall the app and find one that respects my choice

I think it's the vector style that makes it look like that to me? You're clearly very skilled when it comes to vector tools, but that isn't the way that most artists create their work It's depressing that I even question these things, when 5 years ago, this just wasn't an issue we'd even considered

Ubisoft Connect is so much worse than I thought it was. Tried to download Far Cry 4 the other day, took a good 30 minutes of faffing about and a reinstall just to get it to work. Just refused to give me any hints- just 'Try again later'. Not exactly doing wonders for customer retention.

This feels more like it belongs in the late GameCube or early Wii era than the N64 era. There's no texture filtering (this is a good thing), and the draw distance is much higher than N64 games. I really like this style btw, this isn't a criticism of it

There's at least a few boomer shooters that come to mind when you say that- Dusk and Cultic, and to a lesser extent, Blood. None of them are explicitly about the klan, just about killing evil people in pointed hats and robes. Maybe they'll scratch the itch a bit

This is what pisses me off about Destiny 2 so much. At times, it's a truly amazing game that can absolutely stand on it's own two legs without the FOMO bullshit. It's one of the best games ever made, while also being one of the most abhorrently managed.

See, this is what I don't get about radlibs. Y'all do realise that Kamala getting elected and Trump not getting elected are connected, right? You don't get a secret third option just because 'but they both said genocide'. Currently, you've got Trump, and I think things would be better if you didn't
210
touc @touc.gay · 12/04/2025
I support genocide because I think that Kamala Harris is a better leader than Donald Trump? Thats a bit of a leap in logic, don't ya think?
