Different scanner or just lower res scans? Going from 300 to 200 dpi is a crunch. Much gratitude is felt regardless, much better that the photo scans on archive.

"Applies double to the first game" DDII was a skeletal follow up to the ineffable magic of the original Dragon's Dogma. They tried, I'm sure, but II chopped too much of the original's charm while chasing unsupportable graphix. DDIIDA could elevate it, but I'm not holding my breath.

Anything with hand painted art on it gets an automatic A+ from me. No other company has ever come close to the thematic ambiance GW studio artists unleashed on cardboard from the early 80's to the early 2000's. Richard Wright, Gary Chalk, Dave Andrews, Nuala Kennedy, et al.

No one lends books out with the assumption they will ever be returned. There is a reason I buy certain favorites whenever I spot them used.

John Blanche has died. Absolutely devastating news. I have no words right now. It will have to wait. Farewell, old friend.

Hugely sad. We've lost John Blanche. It's hard to know where to begin. He set fire to a generation's imagination, and those fires show no sign of stopping burning. His work very much illuminated the darkness.

Added some Sorcery! too. Because page after page of scrappy Blanche illustrations is a very good thing.

So the 80's are now "very old"? Fuck. But that's great news about Votoms. The missions get a little stale at times but the way the game manages to cover all the main TV arcs as well as some Blue Knight Berserga is pretty neat. Time for a replay on a fresh memory card.

Went back and checked the color scans and yeah, that was bleed through, fixed. Shifted HSV to move the blacks closer to the scanned pages. Going by other period works, I wonder if this was a color piece printed black and white for the magazine.

Not sure what is going on with her hair, as it isn't bleed through from the opposite page, and appears to be intentional, so I left it as is.

Makoto Kobayashi Newtype March 1987 A painful two page spread stitch. Mr. Kobayashi's deep texture layers of hatching and screen tone makes for a lot more effort in blending and fill. A glorious work, with a near perfect checklist of all that is good in traditional SF illustration.

Just noticed that the KV-98 is hiding at the very top of the previous stitch. I guess I was more concerned with touching up the pixel and color gradient shifts than admiring the mecha.

This should be scaled properly to caliper out more measurements from the drawing. Should print nicely on US or A4 letter size.

Did a rescale and slight layout adjustment to this Rabidly Dog Blueprint from Dual Magazine no.9 (June 1984). The original was 1/35 scale but 1/72 moves A.T.'s to a very manageable ~6cm tall. Seems a fun modeling project. Sourced from the excellent Votoms section of @timeldred.bsky.social 's site.
