Sea surface temperatures remain at their second-highest recorded levels, exceeded only by 2024. Which curve will be crossed first: the orange (2024) or the yellow (2023)?

Her frå Klassekampen 8. mai 2017. @ciceroclimate.bsky.social @bjerknes.bsky.social

A strong high-pressure system stretching from the UK and Scandinavia along northern Siberia, and low pressure over Greenland and Canada, give the perfect conditions for a very warm Arctic in the coming days. This is for tomorrow at 6 pm.

The 2025 temperatures have got a head start. With four days to go, it is virtually certain that January will become the warmest ever measured. And this is despite the ongoing La Niña in the Pacific. Data from pulse.climate.copernicus.eu @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social

Her temperatur kl 12 og temperaturavvik frå normalt.

While the cold (and darkness) is descending upon the US, Planet Earth is experiencing its warmest January days in the history of mankind.

Global mean air- and sea surface temperatures remain far above all measurements before 2023. It is virtually certain that the 2024 mean temperature will be the highest ever measured and the first year to exceed 1,5°C above pre-industrial climate. Figures from pulse.climate.copernicus.eu
