(People get a little scared of taking “big doses” of vitamins, but you’re almost never at 100% absorption of the amount in the pill, so you gotta dose up till you hit a level that makes your body happy. sometimes that’s a little bit of pills, sometimes that’s a big stack)

nonzero possibility you need to do a vitamin D dose I know everyone talks about that but you can do like 20,000 IUs a day (as a 230 pound guy…) to get up to spec and then taper down for maintenance this is backed by blood tests

The gold standard for CYA in this is reputable accountants, and there are plenty in your area if you have low confidence wrt keeping your business operation above board. At this time I haven't been audited in all 8 years I've been in business, so take that however you like.

You can disagree with the govt as to what you think you ought to pay. They have guns and lawyers. They also write down the rules and they're not that hard to follow. The LLMs (IF YOU WANT) can help you assemble a starter checklist if you for some reason can't find a list online.

Your annual returns commonly permit tax mitigation through expenses. Things like office supplies, business-related event travel (booth at a convention or host a LOT of panels), subscriptions to business-critical software and services. Talk to an accountant or tax consultant.

Your jurisdiction may have certain rules about paying your sales taxes. At the state level, you'll file/pay monthly, quarterly, or annually depending on your income, but you NEED to pay that money. At the federal level, most self employed people need to file/pay annually.

You'll probably need a DBA or LLC first. It's easy to establish a DBA or otherwise obtain a Sales Tax license with a separate tax number. I've done this in TX and MI. Your sales tax number (EIN/FEIN, usually) will let you get a business checking account to attach other stuff to.
