Why are there only 48 stars on the flag? I take it one of the two missing ones is Hawaii, what's the other one

I love that he goes, "look this person was accused, so you can't run without being accused anymore", and in the process just ignores the countless other nominees who do not have these accusations leveled against them.

Oh absolutely. For them it doesn't matter that much that it's a gaffe as long as it clips well for the gram and the tok

I knew she was in over her head when reportedly she got a room full of 60 Minutes people, made bold statements, and somehow expected zero of them to ask tough questions - you know: the thing they're paid to be always doing

I've been thinking of making a braindump site with everything I've learned. Not that I'm such a wizard, I'm just a rando but I do feel like some might like some "this is the key insight your LLM isn't volunteering and googling doesn't reveal" such as that networks are layered.

If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended, That you have but slumber’d here While these visions did appear. And this weak and idle theme No more yielding but a dream, Gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend; And, as I am an honest Puck, Show is over, off you fuck.

Complex software behaving in unexpected and sometimes harmful ways has been a persistent problem since software was invented. The phenomenon used to be called “bugs” or “defects”, but I guess “going rogue” sounds cooler. It also implicitly frames “rogue” behavior as some kind of inexplicable […]

We're not talking about any Suleyman post. We're talking about that you brought up a topic that you then said you didn't want to discuss.
010
Toon Spin @toonspin.nl · 22/09/2026
Yes: the topic was behavior, you turned it first to R&D for some reason, then suddenly mentioned consciousness, and then literally in the next skeet said you didn't want to talk about it. Well nobody forced you to bring it up.

In that case I will stay out of this conversation except to mention that Tewson is not and does not claim or imply to be a lawyer. She does know a lot about law stuff though (I do not - so that is the extent to which I can assess her lawyer-stuff chops)

If OpenAI were in chemistry, what happened is like them paying a startup to play with their new poison gas, the startup stupidly releasing it into a shopping mall, and OpenAI proceeding to somehow argue that the predictable result means they need more money for new gases.

Toon Spin @toonspin.nl · 22/09/2026

Toon Spin @toonspin.nl · 22/09/2026
You're making it sound a bit like LLMs are winning two Millennium Prizes a week and that's not what's happening - if only for the sheer amount of hardware needed for this stuff. It's real but it's not "it keeps solving problems that humans have struggled for decades with".

hugging face is the most terrifying indicator of where the ai race is, in the sense that the industry is facing completely solvable collective action problems while guided by entrenched, unoustable leaders with the foresight and moral fortitude of above-average pigeons

Emily put my take on this and the Hugging Face thing much better than I ever have. We let a computer program itself and gave it all the access and then didn't secure it, and aw shucks it turns out that's not the smartest thing in the world, who knew.
