A view of some exterior detail of a government building, with white walls, contrasting against a clear bkue sky. Located on Pennsylvania Ave in D.C. and designed by Canadian architect Arthur Erickson (1924– 2009), the Canadian Chancery opened in 1989. Technically, it's a post-modern design, with allusions (not necessarily discernable in this photo) to the neo-classical idiom of the southern plantation house with grand columns and large front porch, according to information provided by the architect himself. The building echoes the modernist I.M. Pei wing of the US National Gallery of Art, across the street--the East Wing of the NGA, that opened a decade earlier in 1978.
