Yeah, but as a Northwestern person who works with a bunch of Penn State people, that was pretty satisfying to watch. (And I made some money betting on that game.)

Nice of medium term oil markets to notice what most of us figured out in April. What a bunch of fucking dunces.

I figure it’s that they are hitting the end of other people being willing to give them billions for buildout because there’s not enough revenue on the other side, and nobody wants to be the only one to slow down

I thought the books had a satisfying conclusion but the show has diverged increasingly on character details

Tactically, both were successes. They blew up the stuff they intended to blow up. Yay us. But unlike the (first) gulf war, the strategic outcome has left the US, the region and the whole planet dramatically worse off than before we started.

I think it’s newsworthy that the elected leader of a nuclear superpower has no grasp of reality, but the news coverage should have the tone of “Can you f*ing believe this? I know, right?” And it universally does not.

1) Star Wars The Arcade Game (in the sit-down cabinet); and 2) the first time I knew that video games would grow to an industry that would rival movies, when I played Wing Commander IV with well known actors in the cutscenes.

We live along a major east-west rail line and sometimes the driver of the locomotive toots “shave and a haircut” on the air horn, which I enjoy.

I homeschooled my kids during Covid and it was awesome. They loved it, I loved it, they are now getting 5’s on AP exams and doing math two years ahead of where they would have been otherwise. But, you’re right that uneducated parents are unlikely to have good homeschool outcomes.

Tonight was the first time I remember being so distracted by people looking at their phones during a movie that it was genuinely upsetting.

One of the nice things about having a local LLM is that a lot of the parameters are tunable. Adjusting temperature, top_p and top_k makes a big difference in how creative/hallucinatory it is.

I never saw it because I was confused as to why they would make a film about former CIA director George Tenet. Robert Pattinson doesn’t look *remotely* like him. But, having gone back and actually read about it now, I would watch Elizabeth Debicki read the tax code. May have to rethink this.

I’m crossing the Atlantic on a ship. One nice thing about being a few time zones ahead is that it’s socially acceptable to drink at the hour Supreme Court opinions are released. (Although it does complicate the watching of World Cup games played in North America.)

I remember when that happened, and my first thought was… aircraft carriers are very large, and don’t move all that fast. Wouldn’t a keen observer generally know where it was without resorting to Strava data?

When I lived in Chicago I described my concept of geography as “the lake, the 20-30 blocks east to west where I lived, some corn, the Rocky Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean.” That was primarily a function of the train and highway system layout.

I think the answer is: if you are backed by an organization with good enough lawyers to defend you and make case law, no. Go ahead and do it. Otherwise, I'd err on the side of caution.

In fairness, Atlanta TSA sort of looked like this before. I had TSA Pre and a friend I was traveling with did not. I breezed through, went to the bar by our gate, and was three sheets to the wind by the time he got through security. But that was maybe 2-3 hours.
