There's so much LABOR happening behind the scenes of FIYAH that goes unrecognized. It's an honor to make space for and share work from the staff who've allowed us to publish Black SFF over these past ten years. Thank you, @emmaliawrites.bsky.social!

Too often writers pour into the community and platforms we so desperately need, at the cost of their own work. "Forged in FIYAH" is intentional about holding space for the authors whose labor made the magazine possible. In that spirit, we praise Eboni and invite you to enjoy her stories!

I bawled my eyes out when I wrote that line. And I hope Black folks hold those words long after reading the book. Because there is some intrinsically powerful about being proudly Black in world that is blatantly anti-Black. The ancestors want us to never forget: they can’t steal what’s in the blood.

I really need the bookish/writing community to stop imposing their glass ceilings on everyone else. “I can’t write 50k words in a month. Other authors who claim to do it must be lying.” “I can’t read 150 books a year. Other readers who claim to do it must be lying.”

Her work honors the rich culture of her ancestors while also representing Blackness in all its resistance, queerness, and neurodivergence. She is an acquiring editor at FIYAH Literary Magazine. Her fiction can be found or forthcoming in PseudoPod, Blue Earth Review, FIYAH, Tordotcom, and other fine publications. She is never happier than when reading something weird that makes her slightly queasy."Header reads "Susanne Salehi." On the left side, there's a photo of Susanne smiling. On the right side, text reads: "Susanne Salehi, MA, MFA (she/they) is an Iranian American writer and editor who writes queer heroes. They are a ‘25-‘26 Poetry Coalition fellow and a ‘25 Lambda Literary speculative fiction fellow, with work appearing in Fruitslice, Frazzled Lit, and the anthology By Her Sword.
