I mean, should the UK have a few more operational frigates/destroyers at any given time available - sure. But also, the whole thing is part of an integrated NATO force. The idea that THE FRENCH!! might escort a UK carrier with some of their frigates is a very normal thing that's supposed to happen.

People laughed at the time, but I for one am grateful the Eastern Orthodox Church founded the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team 562 years ago and placed Olga into cryo-sleep, only to be woken when the time came.
Olga Girina, head of the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT), said that the volcano’s last “lava effusion” happened around 1463, with no eruptions since.

If you have "run-the-government-like-a-business" people run the government like a business, this is the kind of stupid shit you get. They would see an exchange where you get $20tn worth of things you want in exchange for a $20tn credit note as losing $20tn of wealth. www.ft.com/content/f313...
Quote from Peter Navarro in the FT: "The US cumulative trade deficits in goods from 1976 — the year chronic deficits began — to 2024 have transferred over $20tn of American wealth into foreign hands. That’s more than 60 per cent of US GDP in 2024. Foreign interests have taken over vast swaths of US farmland, housing, tech companies, and even parts of our food supply."

Since Trump continues to believe that the trade "deficit" with another country is their tariff rate against the US, could we fix this by having every country just quickly set their actual tariff rate to what he thinks it is, then announce huge tariff reductions.

Tom Randall @tomrandall.bsky.social · 05/04/2025
Debt bad.
Quote from article:
For Perry, a high school teacher who voted for Mr Trump, the tariffs made sense: He felt they were an effective way to raise revenue for a nation in debt. "We could have universal health care, we could have free, universal education after high school, we could feed the poor, but we just don't have the money right now," he said.

Not that I'm a fan of defending the chancellor but you really can't win with interest rates news. It's a "fresh blow" if they hold because 'inflation' and it's a "fresh blow" if they're lowered because 'recession'.

Poor Land Rover Discovery owners of Reading preyed upon by the Mafia Council charging them an extra £3.
Table of information showing Reading Council will charge small vehicle like a Ford Focus just over £3 to park, whereas a large polluting vehicle like a Land Rover would be charged £6.

Followed by quotes:
Brian MacDowell, director of the Alliance of British Drivers pressure group, labelled the proposals “absolutely outrageous”.

He said: “It’s an underhanded tax on people’s travel. It smacks of Mafia-like tactics, preying on those whose incomes are limited and unfairly penalising them for choosing a form of motive power.

“Parking rates should be a blanket charge. There should be no difference between vehicles.

A diagram showing new data about the Uranus System. It's five largest moons falling within Uranus' magnetic field. For reasons that do not need exploring at this particular juncture, that means ionised gases ... something something, possibility of sub-surface oceans on the moons.Extract from BBC article:
So, for 40 years we have had an incorrect view of what Uranus and its five largest moons are normally like, according to Dr William Dunn of University College London.

“These results suggest that the Uranian system could be much more exciting than previously thought. There could be moons there that could have the conditions that are necessary for life, they might have oceans that below the surface that could be teeming with fish!”.Steamed hams scene from The Simpsons.
