No NBA team has won back-to-back championships since 2018. In fact, no defending champ has even made it back to the Finals since the Warriors in 2019. Incredibly, the OKC Thunder last season were the first defending champs to even advance to the Conference Finals!

One could argue the worst-case scenario isn’t losing KAT, but rather guaranteeing a 35-year-old center more than $65 million for the 2030-31 season. Albatross contracts that can sink a team, especially considering NY has to pony up max money for Brunson 9 months from now.

This means the taxpaying public has been helping subsidize an institution from which much of the public is gradually being excluded (get-in ticket prices for last year's playoffs and this season's Home Opener are north of $1,000)

1359

Tommy Beer @tommybeernba.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

The law has spared MSG from an estimated $43 million a year in New York City property taxes. Altogether, according to the NYC Independent Budget Office, this amounts to a subsidy worth roughly $960 million from the government to the Garden.

13911

Tommy Beer @tommybeernba.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Although Mayor Ed Koch later stated he believed the tax break would expire after ten years, the final legislation contained no expiration date.

1217

Tommy Beer @tommybeernba.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

MSG has operated as an extraordinarily profitable private enterprise while continuing to collect a property-tax exemption granted by the city in 1982. The exemption had originally been justified as a means of keeping the Knicks and Rangers from leaving NYC.

Among the many idiotic parts of Schmitt's defense is his continued claim that the Hawks-Warriors game was the only NBA game played on February 3, 2024 and that no NCAA Men's Division 1 games were played that same day... When, in fact, there were six NBA games that night and 140+ college games

LeBron and KD had their reasons for passing on the Knicks, but they passed on a stage no other NBA city can offer. Plenty of superstars dodged New York because of the pressure. Brunson and his boys showed what happens when you don't.

The Knicks just announced they are suspending ticket sales, stating they made a "mistake" by charging exorbitant prices (in some cases, north of 400% increases). "Our intention was never to overcharge our loyal fans," the release reads.

A multibillion-dollar franchise pricing its own non-wealthy fans out of the Garden on a night the fanbase has been dreaming about for 50 years. Shameful.

But these aren’t resale tickets—MSG itself, directly, is charging fans $1,039.50 apiece for seats in the 400s. That’s $4,158 for a family of four. (Just for the tickets - not to mention the overpriced food and drinks.)

170

Tommy Beer @tommybeernba.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Mind you, this is NOT resale. These are Standard Admission via Ticketmaster. Secondary-market sellers charging outrageous prices is one thing. There is practically nothing MSG can to limit re-sellers.

Knicks tickets officially went on sale this afternoon. Loyal Knicks fans supported this franchise through two decades of darkness… losing season after losing season. Now, after a championship, MSG is charging more than $1,000 per ticket on Opening Night for the worst seats in the building

wild to think that KAT averaged just 13 points and 2 assists per game in the Finals... and Deuce averaged 2.2 points on 18% shooting in the Finals ... and Shamet shot only 30% from 3PT in the Finals ... and Hart averaged 7 PPG on 38%shooting ... and the Knicks still won the series in 5 games!

Captain Clutch Stat of the Day: Jalen Brunson has scored 1,490 points in the 50 games he's played over the past three postseasons. Per Blitz Analytics, that's the fourth most in a 50-game span in the NBA's play-by-play era, trailing only MJ, LeBron and Hakeem

Tommy Beer @tommybeernba.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Incredibly, if it wasn't for that miserable summer, they wouldn't have hired Leon Rose the next year, and they wouldn't have signed Jalen Brunson, and they wouldn't have traded for OG and Bridges and KAT, and they wouldn't have won a championship in 2026.

wild to think back to the summer of 2019. The Knicks had spent years tanking and clearing cap space in hopes of landing one of the top 3 free agents: Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and/or Kyrie Irving. They lost out on all 3.
