I don’t know anyone in the US who doesn’t complain about healthcare costs or coverage. Whenever anyone promotes universal healthcare they are labelled communists, crazy or out of touch and ‘sensible’ people say it isn’t possible. Look at the rest of the world. Look at defense costs. It can be done.

Canadian crude was a great replacement for the Mexican and Venezuelan supplies that the Gulf Refiners lost. Way better for their cokers than the more abundant (and expensive) shale oil.

In July the exchange rate was almost $2 to the £ compared to 1.35 today. VAT was 17.5% vs 20% and Fuel Duty was 2.6p/l less. Doesn’t make it feel any better, but it does explain the difference. In the US people are losing it as petrol is now $4+/gal (79ppl)

Lenny was perfect cover when Rodgers jumped ship. He should have been thanked and rewarded, full stop. Any process to identify a top class coach as a replacement would not have included him. Lawwell said there was no other candidate, one of the most shocking indictments in our recent history.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with the money for DD. It’s the kudos of being Mr Celtic and I’m sure he genuinely believes he’s best for the club. Unfortunately, he isn’t and he doesn’t seem to have carried out the required due diligence to determine what best in class is for our peer group

I bought those well and like almost everyone I knew we never thought about making money. It was all about could we make Celtic the best possible team. Small £s compared to the Bunnet and DD but 100% commitment to the club and the future it almost lost

I’ve actually been in this situation and any individual with more than 35% ownership is virtually unassailable without activist Board members. I don’t know our situation clearly but I suspect that every Board member is there at the gift of DD or the understanding that they are on the same page.

It means that decision making is ponderous and ultimately driven by the majority minority shareholder. He then spends too much time on the club relative to its proportion of his assets but not enough that’s healthy for Celtic so it leaves the club and the CEO in an impotent position

I have a certain sympathy for Nicholson … hear me out. We all say the CEO should be doing this, that, whatever. In a perfect world the Board picks management and lets them manage. However, the delegation of authority from the Celtic Board is so restrictive that this is a myth.

I had a trial with Oakley one summer.The only reason I took it was the chance that George might turn out for them (he didn’t). It was worth it though just to hear the stories of how when some players/teams pissed him off, he would just take the ball from the kick off, dribble through them and score.
