My delight at running a new PB of 1:41 in today’s #BristolHalf was utterly eclipsed by the sight of someone with a sign saying The Devil Wears Strava.
A red and gold medal.

A guess a lot people will be spending a lot of today checking some slowly changing numbers on a BBC webpage. If you enjoy that sort of thing and want it to be a more than annual occurrence - can I recommend getting into county cricket?

I went to see Underland at the weekend, a documentary based on Robert Macfarlane’s brilliant non-fiction book. Do catch it if you can. It’s a fascinating film about deep time and our relationship with the earth beneath our feet.

One of the highlights of the past few weeks was being shortlisted for the Bedford Competition with a little #scifi story I wrote earlier in the year. Always nice to have small wins during the glacial process of redrafting.

We are BLESSED in Bristol with many wonderful independent bookshops. Today, we trekked across town to pay our respects to Gloucester Road Books on its fifth birthday. Many new books were bought. No restraint was shown.
The shopfront of Gloucester Road books. A 'five' balloon is floating in front of the shop.

A compelling speculative fiction debut by @tommason.bsky.social In the near future UK, Solomon is mourning his wife, with the assistance of an AI therapist avatar who resembles her. Elsewhere, a nightmarish realm of digital afterlives exists. Grief, tech-life, and, ultimately, hope. #books 💙📚🪐

Just popping in to say it doesn't matter if you've published one book or twenty, you'll never stop comparing yourself to others and feeling moments of inadequacy and frustration that you aren't as 'successful' as your peers. That's why it's important to carefully define what 'success' is for you.

my HORRIFYING cartoon for this week’s @theguardian.com books
Title: Modern Folk horrors of the British Isles

Five images of various characters:

A coven of murderous witches...
Who play loud youtube videos on public transport.

An ancient malevolent demon...
With a three-hour podcast interviewing entrepreneurs.

A flock of bloodthirsty ravens...
Who think absolutely everything is "Woke".

A primordial shambling beast...
Wearing a "Make albion great again" baseball cap.

A mob of satanic villagers...
Who give bad reviews to books they haven't read.
