And apparently the UK shouldn’t have PR because First Past The Post leads to more stable governments.
Graph of number of leaders since the start of 2016, G7 nations. UK leads on 6, France and Canada on 2.

Getting up at 2am to book the boat ticket a few weeks ago was definitely worth it for a boat trip in the beautiful Takachiho Gorge

Spent the day in Nagasaki, incredibly humbling place. All the warmongers in these times would do well to pay a visit.

It’s not true that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. The lad is 10 and yesterday I taught him to jump over stiles instead of going round. Here he jumping over it today! It also happens to be his gotcha day, 6 years today ☺️ Happy gotcha day, Jags!

And there I was thinking the hiking season was behind us this year. Not quite!

My friend asked me to take care of his @microlino.bsky.social while he's away. I don't know who loves it more - me or the dog. When we're driving he sits with his head on my arm, happy to be up front with me rather than having to sit in the back seat away from the hoomans.

Thinking back to 9 years ago today, cycling through the French Alps on the day of the Brexit referendum. I remember watching the results come in in a b&b tucked away on the Swiss border as if it were yesterday. What a deceitful failure the whole thing has been.

AI response: "The policy's exception for allegations based on gender or sexual orientation might be seen as discriminatory because it implies different groups have different standards for what speech is allowed. However, "homophobic" might be a strong interpretation; "uneven" or "inconsistent" could also describe it. The intent might be to allow discussion and debate around specific topics, but it's crucial to consider how these exceptions impact different groups."

Me: "Do you view it as discriminatory or homophobic?"

AI response: "The exception might impact LGBT individuals negatively, as it could allow harmful or stigmatizing speech about their mental health in the context of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This might contribute to a hostile environment, perpetuate stereotypes, or exacerbate mental health stigma. Some might feel this policy undermines efforts to protect LGBT individuals from hate speech or harassment."

Screenshot of conversation with Meta AI in whatsapp. Conversation over a number of screenshots.

Me: "Is this policy homophobic, because it allows for some action against lgbt people that is not allowed towards non-lgbt people:

"Do not post: Insults, including those about:
Character, including but not limited to allegations of cowardice, dishonesty, basic criminality, and sexual promiscuity or other sexual immorality.
Mental characteristics, including but not limited to allegations of stupidity, intellectual capacity, and mental illness, and unsupported comparisons between PC groups on the basis of inherent intellectual capacity. We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality and common non-serious usage of words like “weird.” "

Loving my little holiday project come to life with a traffic light colours "when to leave for the tram" on my programmable clock. (The soaked Rishy Sunak picture in the background is a hangover from when the clock had an election countdown timer and that as motivators)
A Ulanzi Smart clock with the numbers 9 and 14 in yellow and red to denote whether to leave for a tram.

In the background a picture of a drowned Rishi Sunak going back into Number 10 Downing Street after announcing the General Election.

Just walked past this house on the pavement and what I think was the doorbell announced "Hi, you are currently being recorded." What is this hell? I'm mot sure what's worse - that it's recording me or that it's interrupting my walk to tell me it is.

oooh, a great use for NotebookLM: loading all policy motions from the policy paper archive on libdemnewswire.com! thanks for the excellent index of policy papers, @markpackuk.bsky.social
Screenshot of NotebookLM with a prompt "Summarise policy on constitutional reform". The partial response is shown in the screenshot, which reads

"This response summarizes the Liberal Democrat's stance on constitutional reform as detailed in the provided sources.
Liberal Democrats and Constitutional Reform
The Liberal Democrats believe the UK needs a new constitutional settlement to reconnect people with local democracy. This settlement should be completed by 2005 and include a written constitution, a bill of rights guaranteeing citizens’ rights, a strong freedom of information act, a comprehensive network of community councils, and elected regional assemblies in England.
The Liberal Democrats see the current government's proposals for local government reform as flawed, criticizing them for centralizing power rather than devolving it.
The party advocates for decentralizing power from central government to the most appropriate local level (regional, district, or community), arguing that inner cities, often deprived areas, need a redistribution of resources best implemented by a closer, more in-touch level of government. Devolution of power to the regional tier is viewed as highly important for the revitalization of urban areas.
Liberal Democrats support the establishment of urban development corporations to aid regeneration where needed."

The response includes citations for the source of each statement.

In April 2025, state pensions will increase by 4.1% yet benefits and tax credits will only increase by 1.7%. The real value of benefits and pension were the same 50 years ago, now the state pension is nearly double that of unemployment benefits. It's so unfair that the two are pegged differently
