Here’s the most incredible story you’ll read today. A small plane with four people aboard crashes in a field. Another pilot witnesses it. That pilot happens to be flying a bunch of skydivers. They offer to jump to assist, are given permission. The skydivers happen to be EMTs. Everyone survives.

Proximity to consequence is a fact about where someone has stood. Most advice comes from people who study outcomes. Good leaders know the edges of their own knowledge. The person who’s lived inside doesn’t just know more, they know differently. Clip: Lioness, S3E2 “No Sorrow Like the Survivor”

With a historic $124 trillion "Great Wealth Transfer" underway, 42% of U.S. adults continue to rely on their parents for financial support, including some in their 50s and 60s. Study: news.northwesternmutual.com/2026-06-01-A... Survey: news.northwesternmutual.com/2026-06-01-A...
A screenshot of a digital article card titled "Takeaways by Bloomberg AI" featuring three bulleted key insights about financial dependence on parents, with several lines of text highlighted in yellow. Bullets text as follows, (Bullet 1): A survey by Northwestern Mutual says many Americans, including some in their 50s and 60s, rely on their parents for financial help, with 56% of respondents saying it is harder to achieve financial independence today. (Bullet 2): The Federal Reserve's annual survey on financial well-being reported an increase in the reliance on parents to pay the bills, with about 23% of respondents needing some outside help in 2025. (Bullet 3): The increased reliance on parents may reflect a cultural shift, with making it on your own no longer something to be proud of or even aspire to, and may exacerbate inequality for people who don't have families who can afford to help them.

The current administration is, again, incorrectly interpreting the law. Thinking the CHIPS Act means the government has ownership of private companies. A CFR expert warns of a "potentially illegal shift" and calls for strict legal guardrails. I'm looking at all you "but he's a businessman" people.😒
A Council on Foreign Relations screenshot from LinkedIn. The situation mentioned in post (and in the Financial Times article linked) is: Intel shareholders are suing its board of directors and the U.S. government claiming that the government has no legal right to demand equity (company stock) in exchange for CHIPS Act funding (created during the Biden administration) designed to boost domestic semiconductor manufacturing and protect national defense. The Trump administration incorrectly interprets the law to mean the government could become an active shareholder in private tech companies. CFR expert Laura Taylor-Kale, PhD argues this interpretation is a "potentially illegal shift" and calls on Congress to step in and establish strict legal guardrails for future public investments. Several sentences within the text are highlighted in bright yellow, reading: "shareholders in the chipmaker have defied the Trump administration", "The Trump administration has interpreted them as allowing the government to become a shareholder in companies", and "guardrails necessary". At the bottom of the post is a link preview with an Intel logo and the headline, "Trump administration’s dealing in companies is on shaky ground."

President Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett) lands via helicopter at a secure military installation while managing the global crisis involving the Entity rogue artificial intelligence. As she approaches the assembled front line of troops, the military unit steps backward in unison as part of a quiet, coordinated protocol. This leaves her son standing completely alone in the front line, which instantly draws her attention. She walks over to him, and he softly whispers, "Hi, Mom." Inside Telecom: Iran discovered 7,000 tons of antimony, a critical defense mineral, potentially escalating tensions with the Western world (including the US, EU, and Israel) amid global supply chain disruptions.
A screenshot of an online international telecoms business magazine, from "Inside Telecom" titled "Could Iran's Extremely Rare Mineral Discovery Be Another Incentive for US-Israel War?" written by Nour El Souki and dated June 20, 2025.The image is split into two columns: Left Column: Displays the article headline under a "TECH" tag, the author's byline, a reading time of 3 minutes, and a view count of 39,393. Below this metadata is an image showing rough, dark, metallic grey mineral rock fragments against a blue background, followed by social media sharing icons. Right Column: Contains excerpts from the article text. The text states that in March 2025, Iran announced the discovery of 7,000 tons of the rare mineral antimony. It notes this occurred while China, Iran's BRICS ally, was disrupting global supply chains during a minerals war with the US. The article emphasizes that solar grids and military soldier gear depend heavily on antimony, which is sought after by the Western world (including the US, EU, and Israel) while China currently monopolizes it.

60+ years later, the pattern repeats. Congo. Sudan. Palestine. Lebanon. Iran. Venezuela. Cuba. Anywhere Black or Brown people live. American society acts stunned or offended when taught the buried fact: apartheid and Nazi lawmakers studied Jim Crow as their model.
In 1962, James Baldwin said: "White people were, and are, astounded by the Holocaust in Germany. They did not know that they could act that way. But, I very much doubt whether black people were astounded."

New project in progress. It's been fascinating, deeply sad, and impossible to stop thinking about. More to come. Research & Design: Tomi Choyce | AI-assisted visualization
Infographic titled "The Inverted Outcome Hypothesis: A research inquiry into attention, crowdfunding, and the unequal distribution of public response.”

The infographic compares two scenarios side-by-side.

On the left, a red-themed panel titled “Rage Gets Reach.” It shows a breaking news scene with police lights and crowds holding up phones. Text reads: “Outrage. Controversy. Sensationalism. The algorithm amplifies it.” Engagement metrics are listed: 500K views, 20K shares, 15K comments, 25K likes, and $150K raised. A caption at the bottom states: “Fast. Loud. Rewarded.”

On the right, a green-themed panel titled “Need Struggles for Attention.” It shows a woman sitting at a laptop with her head resting on one hand, appearing stressed. A crowdfunding campaign titled “Help Maya Get Through This Semester” is displayed. Text reads: “Real people. Real emergencies. Real need. The algorithm de-prioritizes it.” Metrics show 50K views, 2 shares, 1 comment, 3 likes, and $250 raised toward an $8,000 goal. A caption at the bottom states: “Quiet. Urgent. Ignored.”

Between the two panels is a central graphic with people icons and the text: “People saw both. Why did only one mobilize action?”

Across the bottom, a section titled “What Shapes the Outcome?” identifies five contributing factors:

Crowdfunding Psychology – How people give, trust, decide, and are influenced.
Algorithmic Amplification – Platforms reward engagement, not need.
Social Anchoring – Early signals set expectations and shape outcomes.
Emotional Bandwidth – Care requires capacity; people are stretched in different ways.
Collective Behavior – People have power together but do not always act together.

The overall design contrasts public attention given to sensational content versus urgent personal need, illustrating how algorithms and social dynamics influence visibility, engagement, and support.

Zora Neale Hurston’s life, her brilliance, joy, resistance, & pain reflect the individual cost of being an unapologetic Black woman in a world built to silence her. The patterns that shaped her life—dismissal, punishment, erasure for speaking boldly or shining too brightly—aren't relics of the past.

Now, 66 years after her passing, it work survives. Burned at the edges, but still here. • written in the 1950s, • rejected 3 times while she was alive, • nearly destroyed after her death in 1960, • recovered by chance in a fire, • survived in archives for 70 years, • finally published in 2025
A burned preface page from Zora Neale Hurston’s original 1958 manuscript of The Life of Herod the Great, preserved inside a protective sleeve. The upper edges of the typed page are visibly charred and singed from the fire that nearly destroyed Hurston’s papers after her death. Hurston’s typed signature reads “Zora Neale Hurston, Fort Pierce, Florida, March 21, 1958.” The page appears archival and fragile, carrying visible evidence of both damage and survival.

“My mind rebels at stagnation. Give me problems, give me work, give me the most abstruse cryptogram or the most intricate analysis, and I am in my own proper atmosphere.” —Sherlock Holmes, The Sign of the Four #booksky
Book cover of The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle, published as part of the Penguin Classics series.

The cover features a dark, moody illustration of two men in early 20th-century attire examining something on the ground by lantern light. One man wears a hat and coat, standing upright, while the other bends forward, closely inspecting the illuminated area. The lantern casts a soft glow, creating a shadowy, suspenseful atmosphere suggestive of a mystery or investigation.

Below the illustration is the Penguin Classics logo, followed by the author’s name and the book title in clean, centered text on a dark background.
