Here's my new story about a removal job that goes wonky in a heatwave. Recounted by an eccentric odd-jobber (& Dickens fan), it features exotic fish, a sickly aristocrat, a crash, a surreal argument with a tyrannical policeman, politics & gallows humour galore. www.pikerpress.com/article/1213...

Thanks to Daphne van Domselaar, player of the match last night & one of the nicest superheroines around, who interrupted her dinner to sign my daughter’s t-shirt

Delighted ’The Brussels Review’ has just printed ‘Anglo-Irish’, my first-person story which explores the complex relationships between 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-generation Irish immigrants on a building site in 80s England. Thanks to the editors for their input. thebrusselsreview.com/admin/tbr-sp...

Chuffed 'Piker Press' has published ‘England Expected’, my coming-of-age story set in 80s England, dramatising family conflict between 3 generations - an ex-army, countryman grandfather; a Thatcherite, urbanite father; & a leftish, bookish, teen-narrator son. www.pikerpress.com/article/1174...

On this day in 1899, soon after his release from prison, Oscar Wilde visited his wife's grave in Genoa. My audio-play, 'Death in Genoa', imaginatively reconstructs Wilde's day in the city & stars Simon Callow. It can be listened to for free here (4th drama down): www.madeinmanchester.tv/drama

Brighton Women V Arsenal W was called off due to the waterlogged (League-2-standard) Crawley pitch. In 2023 a similar thing happened. To have 1 match postponed may be seen as a misfortune, but to have 2 looks like carelessness by Brighton, especially as their PL pitch wasn't being used by their men.

Excited ‘The Rumen’ has published my story ‘Baby Boom & Bust’, which dramatises the exploitation of young tenants by baby-boomer landlords in England. A ‘mockney’ thug landlord goads, patronizes & threatens his hard-up millennial tenant. How will the latter respond? www.therumen.com/publications...

Here we are: the woking class - LGBTQ+ gooners; fans priced & worn out by the turbo-capitalist men's game; folks of all ages, passports, ancestries; feminists to a woman - watching Arsenal Women in Louvain Wednesday night, putting on a show with their strength, skill, speed & intelligence...

Thrilled @trashlightpress.bsky.social published my story, 'Anarchy in 80s England', which explores the varieties of anarchy alive & kicking back there & then, when Thatcher vandalised the social/economic fabric, & draws on my work experience on a building site. trashlightpress.com/anarchy-in-8...
