I was read The Hobbit by my mum as a kid and in turn read it to my kids, time I loved that time with them. Part of my love of fantasy/SF comes from that expereince.

Reading my kids books was one of the most fun, joyus parts of parenting. Now they are older and don't want bedtime stories anymore, I miss it so much!

A classic bit of art from White Dwarf issue 97. This issue of White Dwarf started a new 40K column, ‘Index Astartes’ that would document the chapters of the Space Marines, starting with the iconic Ultramarines. Aiming to cover - exploringwarhammer.substack.com/t/keydocuments #Warhammer #oldhammer

Thanks for the shout out! I'd add the scene in Predator 2 with King Willie does perform the role of foreshadowing the idea that you are messing with forces you can't control. King Willie sees it as supernatural sure, but the message is the same.

This is where the warp storms isolate them, so it is only now and then that the Imperium can come and impose its law. Carl drew a fantastic, frenetic, anarchic bunch of images for this. I’ve written a bit about this here: exploringwarhammer.substack.com/p/is-that-du...

Carl Critchlow was a noted artist who gained prominence for his work with Games Workshop in the 1980s and beyond. An appreciation thread! Carl contributed towards Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader itself with pages 224-228 is a guide to the ‘Lost Worlds’

So I’d written about the first Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine before, which I’d assumed was the first ever Games Workshop Space Marine, but turns out that accolade goes to ‘Doctor Who: The Game of Time & Space’ from 1980.
