at this point I realized "ok you can't just get by by just mashing circle to attack you have to engage with the type system, switch out seraphs, and use battle commands" but the whole sequence was neat

000

tomato, diced @tomadto.bsky.social · 14/02/2026

and in hindsight it felt like a graduation test: "do you now understand the battle mechanics enough to defend and not die". this fight was scripted to go on for at least 5 minutes (it felt longer), and right after they drove home through practice how important it was to target weaknesses.

tomato, diced @tomadto.bsky.social · 14/02/2026

there was a fight that that was intentionally unwinnable and the characters' dialogues were basically "we need to *Escape*" and then later there was another fight (the one where Lailah is doing the paperwork for Rose to join) that was unwinnable but you *couldn't* Escape...

destroying my sleep schedule playing tales of zestiria bc I forgot that games can have good storytelling and pedagogy that respects your time and intelligence, a detailed yet clear battle system with a high skill ceiling, a mature narrative that flows between various moods and themes smoothly...

got to the part where perlica was like: we're trying to use our rock friend (that we seeded on Talos-ii and that gives people special cancer). to defeat the bigger bad (sentient? antimatter life annihilating thing) and now I have many more questions

000

tomato, diced @tomadto.bsky.social · 24/01/2026

ofc it's a gacha game story so my expectations for how the story develops are VERY muted the factory must grow

020

tomato, diced @tomadto.bsky.social · 24/01/2026

in the prologue the ghost "perlica" says "meet me up north" and the baddies we're fighting supposedly came from the north, the monster generating rock missile came from the north too...

why are we planting this mineral that gives cancer to people on this moon? are we actually "working together" with the planet and the mineral? why did the mc wipe their own memories? are you sure we're the good guys working in pure benevolence?

the writing and presentation in ak endfield feels like I'm being treated like a 3 year old but the lore is actually intriguing.

High-fidelity Monster Hunter was a bad idea. This is a franchise where sickos would either meet up in person or perform networking acrobatics to play together on a 3DS, and now they can't even get a consistent framerate on a $700 PC as the environment turns to mush.
