100% if there's ever an AGI that could write fiction i suspect we'd fail to understand it because it would be based on a perspective of reality we can't grasp. the kind of dissonance we sometimes experience reading fiction from cultures who's references aren't in our lexicon, but dialled up to 11.

in learning how to write one of the hardest balances for me is figuring out how to seed the precise level of information to allow the reader to discover things for themselves. i doubt AI can do this because it requires an understanding of how humans assemble their reality from disparate information.

i'm not against ID but do it right, not as a sop to *those* people. i doubt removing jury trials will significantly alleviate the backlogs, that needs major investment (like so much else). and, yes. repeatedly punching immigrants instead of tackling the underlying issues makes me sick.

Can’t argue with the second half, he’s been solid internationally. I’ve lost faith in the national stuff. There’s been good things but way too much pandering to the fringe right and introduction of things not on the manifesto like jury free trials and id cards. Latter day Blair authoritarian fluff.

i don't believe we have time for him, or anyone else, to grow in the role - the house is on fire today. we need leader who can articulate the problems and propose solutions that don't nibble around the edges. but would that survive our media environment or our 'everything now' culture?

that's fair - i think i'm still suffering from Clegg-regret so warning signs that might otherwise pass unremarked loom larger than if the whole coalition episode had never happened. it may just be me, but i suspect it isn't.

the one that immediately sprang to mind was Davey joining the performative chorus around Churchill being removed from banknotes. it's not a huge flashing red light but along with softening in language on Europe and other progressive issues i think it's worth watching.

i think their coalition with the Conservatives is still too fresh in a lot of minds. plus Davey has been sending some rather Reform-lite signals on some issues lately... nothing major but enough to make one think twice about switching from one Reform tribute band to another.

... vote right. BUT while some of us react by wanting to reshape a system that failed us in a progressive manner others will react in the other direction seeking the imaginary golden past Reform promise. i.e. you have a generation of reactionaries split over which way we react. just a thought.

could it be that in the past aging generally meant steady pay increases and accumulation of wealth which you'd then vote 'right' to defend. however in my gen (late 50s) you are going to see the first generation who have not done as well as their parents and thus have less reason to... 1/
