Make Votes Matter in South West London @swlmvm.bsky.social · 13/06/2026

Excited and nervous about our SLEEPWALKING POLITICIANS stunt on the Southbank im London tomorrow between 11-13. Time to #WakeUpWestminster

We should all be nervous sleepwalking into a FPTP election. Current government struggling, not surprising only 33.7% voted for it & many of those negative tactical votes. The next could be even less representative & easily influenced by external forces wanting: revival of patriotic European parties

021

Tom Beard @tom-b2.bsky.social · 11/05/2026

Not only fair and inclusive, but also SECURE. Our FPTP is sensitive to a small vote increase and winner-take-all, so vulnerable to media influence and US Strategy to encourage right-wing parties.

020

Tom Beard @tom-b2.bsky.social · 07/05/2026

FPTP with multiple viable parties is not only undemocratic, with MPs elected on very low vote shares, it’s also easy to encourage just a few more votes and the winner-takes-all. With US National Security Strategy to encourage right-wing parties our system is vulnerable and a political security risk

Tom Beard @tom-b2.bsky.social · 06/05/2026

Lets be positive for once: – instead of calling them “Hate Marches “ for political gain – how about “Semite Support Marches” where Christians, Muslims, Jews and Atheist can show support for Palestinians and sympathetic Israelis, who are also attacked by the Israeli Government.

A Support Palestine march – and suggestion to call them “Semite Support Marches”

Let’s hope so – but US Strategy includes supporting right-wing European parties e.g. this image of Vance and Orbán 7April26. Hungary’s system gives some immunity to interference, but ours under FPTP is an open goal to US intervention. FPTP is not only dis-proportional, it’s a political security risk

The US National Security Strategy includes supporting right-wing European parties, this is an example and is an image of US vice-president JD Vance supporting Viktor Orbán in Budapest 7 April 2026

The Rycroft Review says: foreign interests seek to interfere in our politics / in our newly volatile politics even marginal impacts could have a disproportionate bearing on democracy. However, it says nothing about the vulnerability and risks of using FPTP in this situation – a glaring omission.

A graphic representation of the susceptibility and risks of using FPTP with “at least 5 or 6 parties in serious contention. In our newly volatile politics even marginal impacts could have a disproportionate bearing on democratic outcomes” Quotes from Rycroft Review March 2026.
The risks are shown by comparing PR that gives a balance of votes to elected MP, but under FPTP the balance is broken as seats can be won with a very small vote shares and so vunerable to interference.

Agree 40% turnout & 20% electorate vote for Starmer also shows contempt for FPTP voting. Not surprising – as before 26.4% of actual votes electing Lab MPs, but includes “majorities” that are election overkill, remove them and the necessary votes electing Lab MPs is 11% votes. PR would use all votes

000

Tom Beard @tom-b2.bsky.social · 07/03/2026

When you say 20% of eligible voters elected Keir Starmer, that sounds like the proportion of total electorate, of which 40% didn’t vote at all. But considering those who did vote, only 26.4% votes elected Labour MPs, the often quoted 33.7% includes ALL Labour votes.

I agree with Ellie Chowns - give them their platform and we can keep ours. FPTP means a party must be all thing to all voters, UKIP had 13% vote share in 2015 that frightened Conservative to go more UKIP. PR means coalitions of “focused” parties and at least democratic. 2025 AfD failed in Germany

Labour was elected in 2024 on 33.7% vote share, but the figure includes ALL the Labour wish list votes. Party MPs, derived from a distortion of voters’ wish lists, represent us, not the party wish list. The vote share electing Labour MPs was 26.4% - the chart shows vote shares for all MPs similarly.

1930 propaganda was a poster, now it’s a social media clip, with an irrelevant attention-seeking “poster boy”. Prior to infamous image, the clip gives a plausible (but debunked) explanation of State Election Fraud via “forensic access to a DS200 tabulator” - that's the deliberate propaganda message

Comparison of 1930 and 2026 propaganda. The 2026 clip describes perceived State Election Fraud and supports Trump’s campaign for the federal government and the Republican Party to "take over" and "nationalize" the administration of U.S. elections. Here a Trump image is added to avoid re publishing the racism

The hung parliament of 2010 gave us a coalition government, and prevented an EU Referendum by the Tories. But we stuck with FPTP - so Cameron, with a small majority in 2015, had to placate his ERG, gave them a referendum, and destroyed the country. If we had changed to PR, and more coalitions . . ?

PR possibility resulting in us remaining in the EU and reducing some of our problems

Brilliant she says it all - we should be able to be a faithful to our chosen politics, and not be a traitor to them, as forced to do so by FPTP and tactical voting.

We shot ourselves in the foot with Brexit, now we’re hanging ourselves with FPTP - why? With US strategy to help right-wing parties in EU & UK, unregulated political donations allowing “dark money” donations, topped off with a hackable electoral system, we do it because of failed-fptp.netlify.app

More implications of using a 2 party voting system with multiple parties. The 2024 GE gave many MPs elected on very low vote share, but you wouldn’t know it. For one reason we pretend that they are elected with a Majority when in fact it was a “negative Majority” or Minority.

We’re still using a 2 party voting system with an ever increasing number of possible parties. A result is we must pretend that MPs are elected with a Majority when in fact it’s a “negative Majority” or Minority. The correct term would generally be Margin of Victory - over the 2nd placed candidate.
